When we last left the Akademik Shokalskiy a Chinese icebreaker was making its way to rescue the ship from its icy prison. Despite all of the claims of the global warming hoaxers that the ice caps would disappear by 2013 the boat somehow got locked in the Antarctic summer ice.
It became trapped in the ice on Dec. 24, 100 nautical miles east of the French Antarctic station Dumont D'Urville. The 74 people aboard include scientists and tourists, many of them Australian, and 22 Russian crew.
That Chinese icebreaker, the Snow Dragon, never made it to the Russian Ship because the summer ice was so thick (remember it is summer in the Antarctic)
Now a rescue attempt by another icebreaker, Aurora Australis, has been abandoned because of blizzard-like conditions. It has had to return to open waters about 18 nautical miles from the Akademik Shokalskiy because of poor visibility.
The Chinese icebreaker, the Snow Dragon is 6.7 nautical miles from the Akademik Shokalskiy and a helicopter on board will be used to rescue all 52 passengers and some crew if weather conditions permit, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday.
The BBC's Andrew Luck-Baker, who is on the Shokalskiy, said scientists on board thought the ice was much thicker than usual for this time of year.
But how can that be? The global warming hoaxers claim the ice caps are shrinking and we are all about to be underwater. Mother Nature must be a climate denier.
