In the end the famous line from "Wrath of Kahn" turned out not to be true. If "“Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (or one)," then our need to have Mr. Spock live forever will be fulfilled (or at least live the typical Vulcan lifespan of 200 years).
Rest in peace Leonard Nimoy.

There was one scene in the pilot, where, on the away mission he displays a sort of goofy wonder at the native flora. But then, in TOS, they also demoted their pilot episode's second in command to become a nurse. Probably bummed him out!
