Listen if Rachel Dolezal can self-identify as black, "The Donald" can self-identify as a presidential candidate.
"Our country needs a truly great leader, and we need a truly great leader now. We need a leader that wrote the art of the deal; we need a leader that can bring back our jobs, manufacturers, military, to take care of our vets," he said today, "We need somebody that can take the brand of the United States and make it great again. Ladies and gentlemen, I am officially running for president of the United States. We are going to make our country great again!"Donald J. Trump, the billionaire real-estate mogul, reality show host, holder of one of the largest egos in the world and bloviating-billionaire-of birtherism-buffonary released a summary of his almost $9.2 billion in assets as he threw is ego into the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
While many liberals have called the GOP field a "clown bus" but the only real clown in the race is Donald J. Trump. On the other hand as he exclaimed during his speech, he is "really rich."
His announcement at Trump Tower seemed more like Rodney Dangerfield's speech about contractors in "Back To School," than a vision of the future.
Trump's speech was a rambling potpourri of which countries he hates interspersed with anecdotal references along with the words, "I" and "me," "they don't know what they're doing," "they're killing us," "I have" and "can you believe."
While most people agree with what Trump identified as America's problems, his solutions were naive', he is all about ego and desires an imperial presidency even more than Obama.
This presidential wanna-be seems to think he can set prices for everything, like the three dollar websites he creates for his business (no way). He really believes just like his businesses he can can bark orders and China and Mexico will listen (and that we should have taken all the oil when we left Iraq). He believes all of our leaders are stupid and political hacks. He believes he could wave his hand and all of the environmental regulations are going to go away because he can boss around congress (who will immediately agree with his idea for a 35% tariff on cars being made overseas).
"The Donald" was entertaining and absurd at the same time, one thing is for sure he doesn't understand that he would have to first sell his wacko ideas to congress because they hold the purse strings--not him.
Trump has little conception of how international affairs work. For example if he put a 35% tax on cars made in Mexico, he doesn't seem to realize that Mexico will respond with tariffs on American products.
Sadly Trump's side show will only serve to distract from the real candidates and the real solutions for the country, one of which is to make sure Hillary Clinton is NOT the next president.
Trumps biggest problem (thank God) is that people aren't as dumb as he thinks. According to the NY Times Five-Thirty-Eight column, Trump is the least liked candidate of all the 106 presidential candidates since1980 who were in their database.
"A whopping 57 percent of Republicans have an unfavorable view of Trump, according to an average of the three most recent polls. That beats former record holder Pat Buchanan, who had a 43 percent unfavorable rating at this point in the 2000 election cycle. Buchanan, of course, ended up running as an independent."
All we can do now is hope that the Trump Side show peters out quickly and the 2016 presidential debates will be limited to serious candidates.
