NO DOUBT ABOUT IT Texas Murder WAS Honor Killing

Honor Killing is such a stupid expression. There is no honor in this cowardly killing. Yaser Abdel Said killed his two teenaged daughters Sarah and Amina Yaser in cold blood, shot them both because they had boyfriends and then ran away like the coward he is.

The girls brother says it wasn't an honor killing.

Islam Said has previously disputed widespread rumors and media reports that his Muslim father's religion may have been the reason for the killings. Some have speculated that the deaths may have been "honor killings," an Islamofacist practice in which a man kills a female relative who he believes has somehow shamed the family.

The girl's great-aunt said that not only was it an honor killing but the father has a history of abusing his daughters.

Gail Gartrell, the sisters' great-aunt, said Saturday that Mr. Said had physically abused the two girls for years. Around Christmas, the girls' mother – Ms. Gartrell's niece – had fled because of Mr. Said's threats to kill the girls after he learned they had boyfriends, she said.

"She ran with them because she knew he would carry out the threat," Ms. Gartrell said. "This was an honor killing."

She said her niece returned after Mr. Said told her that he would move out so they could reconcile. Within a few days, she said, the girls were dead. Police have acknowledged that the family had some previous domestic problems.

One note: when I posted about this story last week I got this comment:

Ala said... The murders have nothing to do with islam. There is nothing in islam that gives this man the right to kill his daughters. Trust me, I knew them. Honor killings are a cruel cultural practice just like canabilism is cultural and not religious. If you did any research into the article your statement that honor killings are part of islam would have been proven incorrect.

Well Ala..first of all I said Islamofacists...not Islam. You are right that it is cultural and not religious, what you forget to mention that it is unique to the Islamic culture. You don't see lots of Irish Catholic or Jewish fathers killing their daughters do you?
