Martha Coakley Phone Banks Are Empty As She Continues to Slip In Polls

The day before an important election each candidate's phone banks are crazy with activity, working on getting out the vote. This is particularly important in a special election where turnout is generally low. And as you might expect the tighter the race the more important the turnout.

Below is a look at one of Martha Coakley's phone banks today.  Granted there is a mixture of snow and rain, and it is a holiday, but the office is quite empty.  Sound like the Team Coakley's morale is not at its highest.

On the eve of one of the most anticipated state elections in modern American history, it’s still a day off for Massachusetts state employees. The Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Office in downtown Boston is closed to the public for Martin Luther King Day. However, at least one intrepid worker is answering the phones in case local election officials need help preparing for tomorrow’s special election showdown for the U.S. Senate seat from Massachusetts. The unnamed worker expects Secretary William Galvin in the office later today.

Meanwhile, across the street at the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the holiday and a bitter winter storm have kept the crowds away from a phone bank for Democratic candidate Martha Coakley. As of 10:20 this morning, not a single volunteer had yet arrived for the 10am phone bank. MTA Webmaster Meg Secatore tells Watchdog.org that the severe snow and ice that have covered Massachusetts highways are keeping people from the phones....

...is it the "wintry mix?" or is the continued polling showing Republican Scott Brown in the lead.  Two more polls came out today, PJM has Brown +10 % and PPD has him +5%. The poll average from Pollster.com continues to show Brown with a large and increasing lead.

UPDATE: I received this comment.
The MTA phone banks are not in the heavy snow area. Out here in Littleton we got about 8 to 10 inches of heavy wet snow. ALL phones have been manned all morning in the Scott Brown, Littleton office on Stevens St.. Scott will be here at the Littleton Common today at approximately 3:30 to 3:45. Come on out and stand in the snow piles and show democRATS that if you believe in a candidate, you will go out in any weather.
UPDATE 2: Rush Mentioned this post on his show today, Thank you El Rushbo,I am honored

I have yet to get a phone call from a real person in the Coakley camp. They are still asking for phone volunteers. Scott Brown calls been real people at the other end of the line.
