Harry Reid Picks Two Dead Guys as the Greatest Living Americans

One of the reasons Harry Reid is trailing Sharon Angle in his bid for reelection is his inability to listen to Nevada voters. As Senate Majority leader, Reid was instrumental in the Senate passing bills such as TARP, Porkulus and Obamacare, all of them passed over the objections of his Nevada constituents (as well as most Americans).

Nevada voters shouldn't feel bad about their Senator not paying attention to their desires, because as the video below illustrates, Reid doesn't pay attention to interviewers either

Christian Broadcasting Network's White House correspondent David Brody has a weekly feature called Five 4 Friday where he asks five rapid-fire puff-ball questions to public figures. This week's guest was Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Question number three, Brody asked who were the greatest living Americans? Reid's answer was Robert Byrd and Teddy Kennedy neither one is qualified to be considered the greatest living American. To paraphrase from the famous Monty Python "Dead Parrot Sketch:"
He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-LIVING AMERICAN!!

Let's try and give Reid the benefit of the doubt for a second, maybe the Majority Leader wanted to answer a totally different question. Maybe Reid wanted to tell Brody who he thought the greatest Americans in history were, living or dead?  But that would mean  Reid was saying that a former Exalted Cyclops of the Crab Orchard, W.Va chapter of the  Ku Klux Klan was one of his choices, and the other was  a man who committed vehicular homicide and worked with the KGB to screw up US foreign policy during the Reagan administration was his other pick.  It seems to me if Reid was trying to answer that question, people such as Washington, Lincoln or Jefferson would have been more appropriate responses.

On the other hand was it that the Majority leader couldn't come up with a choice of for the  greatest living American?  But one would think that Reid would pick Barack Obama for the greatest living American.  After all he spent the past two years shoving the President's policies down the throats of the American people.

Reid's answer could be a result of  spending the past two years dealing with an Administration schooled in the rules of Chicago Politics. Maybe Harry Reid has lost the ability to discern between dead and alive. After all, in Chicago the dead vote for Democratic candidates almost as much as the living.

Maybe the answer is much simpler than that.  Maybe as a progressive who has become much too comfortable in his Senate seat,  Harry Reid only listens to one voice, Harry Reid's.

Apparently Senators Byrd and Kennedy were unavailable for comment, the post will be updated should they become available.

Everybody has two ends,
The thinking and the sitting end,
And since a Senator's career
Depends on his seat,
Why bother, Friend.

Modesty forbade him from naming himself, but I wonder who he'd have named if he'd listened to the question. Maybe Pelosi and Obama.

What a twit.

He apparently believes that blocking foreclosures will bring out Nevada voters, but what about the vast majority of people who have kept their mortgages current? Or paid their mortgages at 11% to see the government pour taxpayers money into bailing out the people who aren't keeping their bargains?

It's like they sit around discussing how best to destroy the banking industry.

There are so many reasons to be angry with the federal government, both Dems and Reps: the Housing bubble; TARP;, Porkulus; Obamacare and trillion plus deficits. And they're still going to push Cap & Trade to pay off their ecodonors, and don't expect them to back off on taxes, because, you know, they're so concerned about fiscal sanity.
