The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today issued the following statement in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the killing of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Black teenager who was shot February 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida, during a confrontation between the two men.
Barry Curtiss-Lusher, ADL National Chair and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, said:If this sounds familiar it should, it practically echoes Obama's political statement about the verdict last night. Beyond that...the ADL is lying.
We have great faith in America’s jury system and do not question the verdict in the Zimmerman case.
However, this case raises serious questions about the wisdom of stand-your-ground laws and the easy access to concealed weapons permits in states like Florida, where more than one million permits have been issued since 1987 when the state’s concealed weapons law went into effect. Had neither been in place, this tragedy may never have occurred.
There are serious, unresolved issues of race in our country, and this trial underscored the need to explore these issues more fully. Hopefully, the debate concerning the justice of the verdict in the Zimmerman case will inspire a continued much-needed discussion about the lingering impact of racism in society.
Stand your ground was not part of the Zimmerman trial. That would have involved a separate hearing before the trial. The defense never asked to invoke stand your ground.
This case had nothing to do with gun control! Did Zimmerman qualify for a concealed carry permit--yes! There was nothing in his background that would remotely raise a concern for him to have that permit.
Oh and if Zimmerman didn't have that carry permit, he might be the dead one having his head bashed in by the sidewalk.
As far as race, this trial had nothing to do with race, in fact the FBI investigation proved that. Race didn't come into the picture until Anti-Semites such as the Al Sharpton and the New Black Panther Party got involved (by the way the New Black Panther leader still believes Zimmerman is Jewish).
Once again the ADL has put progressive politics before its mission. Just as they did when they asked Jews not to criticize Barack Obama, or when they supported late term abortions, or when they pushed for illegal immigration without border control, or even when they lied about the tea party being a violent movement.
The ADL is nothing but a tool for the progressive movement. If you wish to donate to the progressive movement allow me to suggest you donate to Organizing for Action--they do it better. If you want to donate to a Jewish Organization allow me to suggest you avoid the ADL, there are hundreds of Jewish Organizations dealing with Jewish, or other worthy charitable work, unlike the ADL those groups don't waste their time and your donations being a political wannabes.
