Look at what he told the Wingate Commission, that the War in Lebanon was planned months before any soldier was kidnapped. You may think that ok he is lying or trying to cover-up things. Folks it is not possible that someone could lie that bad. I think that this poor man really believes that it is true. No sane man could think that we would buy a story that one day he called up the Dan Halutz and said,
"You know I have been thinking, just in case one of our soldiers gets kidnapped on the northern front during the summer, lets come up with an invasion plan. Oh and Dan, Make it Really, Really Crappy. Make us look confused and ready to try and with this thing. Maybe we can scare them by thinking that Israel's leadership is crazy, you know kind of like Mel Gibson in those Lethal Weapon movies"
According to Ynet News, Many MKs Just think that Olmert is lying. I am afraid that they are wrong and it is much, much worse.
Olmert is rewriting history, says MK Eitam
MKs criticize PM's statement that second Lebanon war was planned months in advance, a claim Nasrallah made repeatedly during war. 'If he isn't lying – it's a thousand times worse,' says MK Eldad
Amnon Meranda
"It seems that the prime minister and Nasrallah are getting their stories straight," an outraged MK Effie Eitam told Ynet Thursday on Olmert's statement that the second Lebanon war was planned beforehand.
All throughout the war and afterwards, Hizbullah's leader Hassan Nasrallah defended himself from public criticism by claiming that Israel had already been planning the war and that it "jumped at the chance" to strike.
According to Haaretz, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told the Winograd Commission that a military operation in case of a kidnapping incident along the Lebanese border was planned as early as March, 2006, four months prior to war.
Several MKs criticized Olmert's statement, which they said backs up Nasrallah's repeated claims, and could jeopardize Israel 's credibility.
"Assuming that Olmert isn’t lying, this statement makes things a thousand times worse. If he approved this plan without making sure that the Home Front was ready and that the IDF was capable of carrying it out – he should be tried for criminal negligence," said MK Arieh Eldad (National Union-National Religious Party).
MK Effie Eitam said, "In an attempt to shake off responsibility for the poor managing of the war, the prime minister is also trying to rewrite history. We remember the time before the war… we heard of the cuts in the defense budget, we heard that there were no more existential threats to Israel.
"Saying that the IDF was prepared for a war in the north and that the prime minister even planned to start a war in the north is untrue. This war was a serious managerial failure for the military's senior echelon, who already took responsibility."
MK Yuval Steinitz (Likud) said, "A country preparing for a war certainly would not be cutting defense budgets, significantly minimizing field-training and reserve recruits. Olmert's testimony that the war was planned was meant only to stop the many attacks and criticism against him and has no real basis."
MK Gideon Sa'ar, chairman of the Likud faction told Ynet, "As usual, Olmert is trying to put responsibility on someone else, and this time, on the IDF. The prime minister bears the highest responsibility for the war's failures… any attempts to escape responsibility are doomed to failure."
If Olmert runs for reelection his campaign song should come Pink Floyd's famous Dark Side of the Moon..because it is what fits his current state of mind:
The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

Great song for Olmert, Yid.
Tho I think you are giving him too much credit, comparing him to Captain Queeg; after all, a central tenet of the defense (and I have read this book a zillion times) was that no one could rise to command without being capable. Queeg would have been OK in peacetime, but the wartime stressors were too much.
Olmert? Well, he'd be just as lousy a leader in peacetime, too.
With more and more Israelis realizing how dangerous this idiot really is, maybe... just maybe, the opposition will get together to pass a vote of non-confidence. Frankly though, I doubt it, there are no real men in the Knesset, but one can hope....
If you removed the name Olmert and replaced it with Bush, you'd be describing the USA...
Someone put transmitters into his dental fillings and is sending him instructions. It happens to lots of politicians.
Texasfred and Miriam are giving our boy Ehud WAY too much credit...
Well Michael you may be right. The other difference is if you remember at the end of the movie we find out Queeg was right. that will never happin with Olmert. And Bogey was cool and Elmer has a combover. The only saving grace is all of the latest polls

Yid:
I've only seen the movie once (tho the Courth Martial play two or three times), and I don't remember that from the end; I remember Keith getting stuck on a ship with a DeVriess again.
I think the movie makers took too many liberties with a fine book.
Wouk purposely left ambiguous the correctness of Queeg's actions, and was careful to point out that the principles involved (Keith and Maryk) saw their Navy careers evaporate.
And he wrote a far, far better ending.
