MK Bishara's Flight From the Law Takes Him to Egypt
by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz(IsraelNN.com) Fugitive Arab Knesset Member Azmi Bishara (Balad), being investigated by Israeli authorities on classified security charges, has surfaced in Egypt, according to a report by Egyptian news agencies. Bishara met on Saturday morning with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit. According to a report on the Arab-48 website, Balad MK Wasil Taha was also present at the meeting.
The meeting lasted for about an hour and reportedly encompassed discussion of regional and local Arab issues, including the Arab League initiative proposed last month at the League's Riyadh summit.
In a recent interview with the Al-Biyan newspaper of the United Arab Emirates, Bishara denied rumors that he sought political asylum in Qatar. However, he admitted that he had not yet reached a decision regarding his return to Israel, saying that he fears that he would be harmed in an Israeli jail by indirect means, such as the withholding of his medications. Bishara told the UAE newspaper that he will quit the Knesset in any case, after 11 years of activity, in order to devote his time to research and writing.
The Knesset House Committee is expected to discuss this week stripping Bishara of some of the benefits he receives as an MK, such as funds for a community liaison office, but not his monthly salary.
A recently proposed bill would allow Knesset members to dismiss colleagues who are indicted on criminal charges and refuse to arrive at judicial proceedings. MK Gilad Erdan (Likud), who proposed the law, described the current situation - in which Bishara, even when indicted, can remain abroad and thereby hold onto his Knesset seat - as absurd. In addition to dismissal, the proposal calls for the suspension of salary and benefits for any MK who is in Bishara’s circumstance. According to the proposal, 20 MKs can petition the Attorney-General to recommend dismissal, which would then have to be approved by 80 MKs.

Another Arab Cowardly Act
The Islamic Arabs like to portray themselves as valiant warriors. Brave fighters on horseback decapitating the infidels with one swoop of their swords. The truth is they practice cowardice not bravery. Sending a young boy, drooling with zealotry to blow himself up on a bus filled with other young teens is not valiant. Blowing up schools, as they did in Gaza yesterday does not show bravery. Having a 12 year-old hack off the head of a prisoner is not the act of a honorable warrior. Spying on your country and running away to hide, is the act of a coward. If he is innocent let him prove it. If he is guilty let him stay out of the country and admit the truth in the safety of Egypt.
