In September 2003, Senator John Kerry implied that voting against wartime funding bills was equivalent to abandoning the troops. "I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to whatever follows as a result of simply cutting and running,” he said. Then, in October 2003, a year after voting to support the use of force in Iraq, Kerry voted against an $87 billion supplemental funding bill for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He did support an alternative bill that funded the $87 billion by cutting some of President Bush’s tax cuts. But when it was apparent the alternative bill would not pass, he decided to go on record as not supporting the legislation to fund soldiers.
Kerry weaseled out of this contradiction by saying “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.”
Last night Tzipi Livini, Israel's fence-sitting Foreign Minister, sounded very "Kerry-esque. She even did Kerry one better. She voted for the war TWO times before she voted against it. Livni also discussed her chastisement of Olmert for not including her more often in the war effort decision making. GEE WHIZ!!! Livni was part of the Security Cabinet, part of the regular cabinet--WHAT A FREEKING COP OUT. How else did she want to be involved? Did she want to stand the bathroom door so every time Olmert went in she could tell him whether it should be a #1 or #2? THIS PERSON WANTS TO BE A LEADER OF A NATION?
Tzipi is a media favorite, at least OUTSIDE of Israel. She was even named one of the 100 most powerful people in the world by Time Magazine Today. That is very impressive, especially when you consider that President Bush didn't make the list. But being a media favorite does not make one a Prime Minister. Tzipi Livni was correct in calling for Olmert's resignation--but this lady has got to go also!
