Terror attack foiled in central London

A terror attack was foiled near Piccadilly Circus, London on Friday morning when British police defused an explosive device found in a parked car, and the new government called an emergency meeting of senior security chiefs to investigate the planned attack in the capital. Police said the car - parked near busy Piccadilly Circus - contained a "potentially viable explosive device" but would not give further details.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who took office on Wednesday, said the incident was a reminder that Britain faces "a serious and continuous threat" and the "need to be alert."
"I will stress to the Cabinet that the vigilance must be maintained over the next few days," Brown said.
Forensic officers in white suits examined a silver Mercedes sedan and placed a blue tent-like cover over the rear of the vehicle, which was parked outside an American Express foreign exchange office in The Haymarket road.
Britain's Press Association quoted an unidentified police official as saying: "The indications that we have got so far are that it was certainly a big device."
But police officially gave no details about what they called a "potentially viable explosive device," which they had made "safe."
Officers were called to The Haymarket shortly before 2 a.m., a police statement said.
The Haymarket is the site of restaurants, bars, a cinema complex and, most famously, theaters. On a Thursday night, the area would have been buzzing with crowds of people. The broad street links Piccadilly Circus in the north to the Pall Mall at its southern end.Sky News broadcast a photograph of the vehicle taken early in the morning showing showed a green canister beside the car and the backseat door open with blankets spilling out
The station cited witnesses as saying doormen from a nearby nightclub had reported that someone had crashed a Mercedes sedan into garbage bins and ran away. One witness said he saw two gas canisters - which were green, the color for propane - in the backseat of the vehicle along with a large number of nails on the car's floor, Sky reported.
Jack Straw, who was named justice secretary by Britain's new prime minister, Gordon Brown, said ministers had been informed of the incident and called it "very saddening," but added "these things happen."
The area around the vehicle was cordoned off as a precaution on Friday morning while explosives officers examined the vehicle. London transport officials said the Piccadilly Circus Underground train station was closed.
The alert comes a week before the second anniversary of the July 7 London bombings, in which four British Muslim suicide bombers killed themselves and 52 bus and subway passengers.
For more than a year, the government has held the country's terrorist threat level at severe - which means a terrorist attack is highly likely.

These peaceful terrorist monkeys must be stopped from coming in to Britain...
absurd thought -
God of the Universe says
Britain must pay forever
immigrants are entitled
to take over the country
.
uspace - if you stop those terrorists from entering Britain, how will the British people receive their national health care? Afterall, these terrorists all all medical providers for NHS.
