U.S. President George W. Bush on Thursday called Israeli settlement expansion an "impediment" to the success of revived peace efforts and urged the Jerusalem to follow through on its pledge to dismantle unauthorized settler outposts.
Speaking less than a week before his first presidential visit to Israel and the West Bank, Bush voiced optimism at the prospects for securing an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal by the end of 2008, a goal set at last November's Annapolis conference that has been viewed with some skepticism.
Bush said he would use his trip to keep up pressure on both sides, including making clear to Israelis his concern about continued Jewish settlement activity."I will talk about Israeli settlement expansion, about how that is, that can be, you know, an impediment to success," in an interview at the White House with Reuters. "The unauthorized outposts for example need to be dismantled, like the Israelis said they would do." See U.S. President George W. Bush speaking during an interview with Reuters in the Oval Office on Thursday.
Excuse me Mr President, are there other impediments to peace that you forgot to mention? Let me refresh your memory
Samaria in view of the continued attempts by the terrorist organizations to carry out terrorist attacks lets just talk about the west bank
- December 21 : An IDF force stationed at the Hawara road block (south of Nablus ) detained a Palestinian who had a mortar shell in his possession. The Palestinian was handed over for interrogation.
- December 19 : A senior PIJ terrorist operative was critically wounded in a terrorist roundup in the village of Silat al-Harithiya near Jenin. He was responsible for an attempted car bomb attack inside Israel in September 2002. The attack was prevented when the vehicle was stopped by the Border Police near Givat Ada (north of Hadera) and found to be carrying 400 kilograms (880 lbs) of explosives (IDF spokesman's Website, December 19).
- December 19 : An attack was prevented when a Palestinian arrived at the Hawara road block and tried to stab the soldiers during a routine security examination (IDF spokesman's Website, December 19).
- What about these two boys who were killed, by Abbas' terrorist forces. What do you have to say to their families about impediments to peace ?
Folks it appears that the President of the United States has fallen back on the old US policy, the one created by Jimmy Carter and followed through by Bush Sr. and Clinton... Terrorism is BAD except when the victims are Jews.

Bush is obeying the orders of Saudi Arabia in blasting the settlements. Fauxnews was running a bottom-of-the-screen crawl last night saying SA had asked Bush to make Israel abandon settlements.
I am quickly becoming thoroughly disgusted with Bush. His second term is almost polar to his first. When did he lose his integrity?
Right after the midterm elections when he lost control of congress and was forced to start listening to James Baker
Yeh, well ..I hope all the *pure* Republicans who sat out the '06 midterm election to "teach the party a lesson" have learned a lesson themselves. It's doubtful, though, since I consistently hear purists today saying the same thing. They cut off their nose to spite their face. Unfortunately, others suffer for their piety. Forgive the snark, but it really irritates me.
