Bush's Israel Trip- Here Comes Great Presidential Middle East Flip Flopper

Four years ago President Bush sent then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon a letter which said in Part:
"The United States reiterates its steadfast commitment to Israel's security, including secure, defensible borders, and to preserve and strengthen Israel's capability to deter and defend itself, by itself, against any threat or possible combination of threats....As part of a final peace settlement, Israel must have secure and recognized borders, which should emerge from negotiations between the parties in accordance with UNSC Resolutions 242 and 338. In light of new realities on the ground, including already existing major Israeli populations centers, it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of final status negotiations will be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949, and all previous efforts to negotiate a two-state solution have reached the same conclusion. It is realistic to expect that any final status agreement will only be achieved on the basis of mutually agreed changes that reflect these realities.
Over the past year it seems that the President has forgotten to read his own letters. He is doing his best to damage rather than protect Israel's security:

  • He is bashing Israels new construction within existing settlement areas and ignoring terrorism being financed and approved by his chosen non-moderate, moderate Palestinian President Abbas.
  • He is pressuring Israel to give up Judea and Samaria which will make Israel much more vulnerable to terrorist attack.
  • He is donating billions of dollars to Fatah, which will be used to buy additional terrorist munitions.
  • He has given in to Iran's nuclear aims by not fighting AGAINST the recent incorrect report declaring that Iran stopped its weapon' s development program.
Bush arrives in Israel this week to fight for his Presidential legacy. A year ago I would have said that his legacy is waging a successful war on terror, but today perhaps the Great Presidential Middle East Flip Flopper might be more appropriate.

Pajamas Media Has some great interviews with Presidential Candidates McCain and Guliani regarding their views on the War On Terror:

Want to know what presidential candidates Rudy Guiliani and John McCain think about the war on terror?

guilianiGOP candidate Rudolph Giuliani explains why an Iraq-style "surge" is needed in Afghanistan and how the new U.S. president "has to start us on the road to energy independence," in his PJM "War on Terror Conversation." The former NYC mayor was interviewed by Claudia Rosett and Roger L. Simon in Bedford, New Hampshire in the run-up to that state's crucial primary.

mccainJohn McCain to Osama Bin Laden: "Osama, I'm going to get you. Even if I have to follow you to the gates of hell, I'll bring you to justice." On Vladimir Putin: "He seems to derive some kind of, in my view, almost immature pleasure in sticking his thumb in our eye." The presidential candidate held his no-holds-barred "War on Terror Conversation" with PJM's Claudia Rosett and Roger L. Simon in Manchester, New Hampshire.
