Some people believe Barack Obama is a near-messianic figure anointed by God. Others think they need a reality check.As the excesses of Obamamania have spread, so have Web-based lampoons by his critics, or "heretics and unbelievers," as they are labeled on the blog "Is Barack Obama the Messiah?" (obamamessiah.blogspot.com), which has chronicled the hosannas.
The most acerbic critics have been conservatives, but Obamamania also has troubled some who voted for the Illinois senator, among them Slate magazine's Timothy Noah.
Early last year, noting a "gushy" tone to media profiles of the candidate, Noah began his Obama Messiah Watch—a tongue-in-cheek "periodic inquiry into whether Barack Obama is the son of God."
If that seems overstated, consider the Washington Post/Newsweek religion blog that asked, "Is Obama the Messiah? People are asking these days and it's not so hard to understand why: the desperate throngs, the tears, the great awakening of a slumbering demographic."
Or Time magazine's cover story about the election, which began, "Some princes are born in palaces. Some are born in mangers. But a few are born in the imagination, out of scraps of history and hope."
Following Slate's lead, the conservative Weekly Standard magazine began running a feature "poking fun at the flurry of rhetoric" surrounding Obama.
Said associate editor Matthew Continetti: "The higher your expectations, the greater your disappointment when Obama doesn't live up to them. So I think a lot of people are in for a hard fall.

FWIW, we Christians know Obama is nothing but a false prophet, given that the Messiah has come and will again.
One thing that's truly upset many Christians is that Obama, a purported believer in Jesus the Christ -- and he cannot be, given his heretical statement that there are many paths to God and given his stance on abortion, which is one of death, not life -- never sought to quench any of the comparisons of himself with the Messiah.
He could've.
But his self-absorption, his narcissim, his megalomania--his pretend relationship with Christ Jesus--all kept his tongue silent.
He deserves every bit of scorn and derision that can be sent his way for just that.
Meanwhile, once the 63 million who voted for him -- or, rather, once the true vast majority of those who voted for him -- learn what a true empty suit he is, that what he said was simply what people wanted to hear, they will have very different view of and affection for the creation from the cesspool called the Chicago Political Machine.
And FWIW, I pity Obama. I suspect he has no clue of that which he's gotten himself into.
And given his hypersensitivity to criticism, I pray his skin thickens and ego stifens.
Wouldn't want to see him cry in public because someone questions him or doesn't like him.
That said, I continue to pray that he finds the Messiah in which he claims to believe.
Again, I will be laughing once the illuminati Obama Worshippers see their hero fall.. and show himself as being not THAT great.e

I never claimed that you made fun of Christian beliefs. I think it is ironic that Jews point out to Christians that the Messiah is simply a man (not a God) born in the lineage of David. The Messiah cannot be Jesus because the Messiah would not claim to be more than a man, and the Messiah must do some very specific activities of which, it is presumed, a mere man could do. If the Messiah is mere "man" than it is not really blasphemous for a non Jew to claim Obama to be Messianic now is it? The reason why Christians feel that any man who calls himself a "Messiah" is blasphemous is because the Messiah is more than man in their view.
