UN Holocaust Remembrance Day Marked With Anti-Semitism

Today the United Nations, an  organization  has done much to add fuel to the Anti-Semitic fire it the world Celebrated its Annual UN Holocaust Remembrance Day. As today is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

As is  Par for the course at the UN's, the original host was to be UN General Assembly President Miguel "I don't hate all Jews Just the Israeli Ones" d'Escoto Brockmann .

At the last minute Brockmann skipped the world body's ceremony marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day, because American Jewish leaders threatened to demonstratively exit Tuesday's if he used the podium to attack Israel (Brockmann can't help himself).

Some countries marked the day with appropriate ceremonies: 

Survivors, Polish government officials and foreign diplomats placed flowers and wreaths at camp monuments. More than one million people - most of them Jews - died in Auschwitz gas chambers, or through disease, forced labor or starvation.


Germany marked the day with a special session of parliament, where President Horst Koehler praised young Germans for seeking to learn about their country's wartime history as well as Holocaust victims.


Italian lawmakers in Rome observed a moment of silence. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi then urged teachers and students to use the day to advocate the values of peaceful coexistence.

But then there are those "Other Places" the ones who deny the Holocaust or those who try do de-legitimize the Jewish State by accusing it of perpetuating another Holocaust:

In Iran, where authorities routinely deny the Holocaust, officials marked the day with verbal attacks on Israel's recent treatment of Palestinians during its three-week military incursion into the Gaza Strip. Iranian government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham referred to the Holocaust as a Zionist forgery. Source

 A northern Swedish city has decided to cancel a planned Holocaust Memorial Day torchlight procession due to the recent IDF offensive in Gaza, it was reported Tuesday.The official reason given for the decision, made by the municipal board and local church in Lulea, was safety concerns, but Bo Nordin, a clergyman and spokesman for the church, cited the war in Gaza. "It feels uneasy to have a torchlight procession to remember the victims of the Holocaust at this time," Nordin told Swedish National Radio. "We have been preoccupied and grief-stricken by the war in Gaza and it would feel just feel odd with a large ceremony about the Holocaust." Source

A Scottish group is hosting what it claims to be a Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration on Sunday along with a Hamas supporter who justifies suicide bombings. The Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, an anti-Israel fringe group, is hosting an event titled "Resistance to Genocide and Ethnic Cleaning: from Europe in the 1940s to the Middle East Today" to mark the UK's Holocaust Memorial Day. ....The overwhelming public support for the Palestinians has prompted the government to cancel the Holocaust Remembrance Day service. This was to be the only public event marking the day, and was scheduled to take place in Barcelona's central piazza.

"Marking the Jewish Holocaust while a Palestinian Holocaust is taking place is not right," a local City official told Barcelona's La Vanguardia newspaper.

Rafael Shutz, the Israeli ambassador to Madrid, sent a letter to President of the Government of Catalunya José Montilla Aguilera, expressing his concern over the flaring anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic sentiments sweeping through his region.

Meanwhile, other European countries have also compared Israel's actions in Operation Cast Lead to those of Nazi Germany: A Norwegian diplomat stationed in Saudi Arabia sent a mass-distributed email stating that "the grandchildren of Holocaust survivors are doing the same thing to the Palestinians, as the Nazis did to their grandparents," using her official Norwegian Foreign Ministry address.

In Germany, the Neo-Nazi National Democratic Party (NPD - Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands) announced it would be mounting a protest march in Berlin on January 27, under the banner of "Stop the Israeli Holocaust in the Gaza Strip."

Avner Shalev, head of the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum, admonished both the comparison and the use of Nazi symbols in many of the anti-Gaza operation protests around the world.

"These comparisons are a manipulative distortion of history," he said, adding that the Holocaust would be best left out of the contemporary political discourse.  

Then there is Peace Partner and Moderate Arab State Egypt:

On January 26, 2009, the day before International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Sunni Islamist Egyptian channel Al-Rahma [Mercy] TV aired a show featuring Egyptian cleric Amin Al-Ansari. [1] Starting off by examining "the civil strife the Jews have caused throughout the world," Al-Ansari explained that because of the Jews' deeds during and after World War I, "it got to the point that the rulers themselves had no solution but to annihilate them."


Al-Ansari showed viewers how "the holocausts of the Jews in Germany were because of their own deeds - they were killing Germans, kindling civil strife, inciting the people against their rulers, and corrupting the peoples," underlining his points with World War II footage of the bombing of Berlin, which he compared to present-day Gaza.


Then, saying, "Let’s watch what Germany did to Israel - or rather, to the Jews," he screened footage of torture and killing of Jews in Dachau, Mauthausen, and Belsen, providing running commentary, and stating, "This is what we hope will happen, but, Allah willing, at the hand of the Muslims."


He adds that the Jews "have even turned [the Holocaust] it into a holiday, which will be marked in a few days. They call it the Holocaust Holiday, in which they rekindle what happened to them, for the whole world to see, so that people will feel sorry for them... so that they can continue to extort people politically and financially forever. They like money."

Its Sad, that 64 years after the liberation of Auschwitz the Jewish people are still the scapegoat of the world.
