Newsweek Claims ISRAEL DOES NOT EXIST

Weekly "news" magazine, Newsweek has an unusual vision of the Middle East.  In its latest Cover Story, "learning to live with radical Islam"  It pushes some revisionist history:

The groups that advocate these policies are ugly, reactionary forces that will stunt their countries and bring dishonor to their religion. But not all these Islamists advocate global jihad, host terrorists or launch operations against the outside world—in fact, most do not. Consider, for example, the most difficult example, the Taliban. The Taliban have done all kinds of terrible things in Afghanistan. But so far, no Afghan Taliban has participated at any significant level in a global terrorist attack over the past 10 years—including 9/11. There are certainly elements of the Taliban that are closely associated with Al Qaeda. But the Taliban is large, and many factions have little connection to Osama bin Laden. Most Taliban want Islamic rule locally, not violent jihad globally.

The article goes on to explain that under the Bush administration the US Treated all Islamic fundamentalists as terrorists. I guess they never heard of the surge where some of the tribes we befriended some fundamentalists, and they helped us kick al Qaeda out of Iraq.

The most radical part of the article is a graphic denial that the nation of Israel exists. In the map above Newsweek points out all of the Muslim areas in the Middle East, for the Palestinian Territories it shows the entire state of Israel.  If you didn't get the point with the small map, Newsweek makes it easier, they also provide a blow up image.

Here's is the Ironic part.  Not only does Newsweek Show the ENTIRE state of Israel as Palestinian Territory, but they don't include the areas traditionally assigned to the PA, Judea and Samaria.

UPDATE...NEWSWEEK CHANGED ITS PICTURE--THIS IS WHAT IS UP THERE NOW:

Either they changed the graphic since you posted or this is a bogus charge.

I HATE Newsweek, but the map you post is not in its full detail.

You can get the State of Israel just by mousing over the Country.

Go to this page:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/187251

and mouse over Israel or the "Palestinian Territory" text.
You get Israel SEPARATE from West Bank and Gaza.

Did Newsweek use too large a map?
Yes, certainly.
Should they have restricted the graphic's horizontal axis to only
Africa and the South Pacific?
Yes.

By using too large a graphic, they made the representation of Israel too small to show.

Newsweek is stupid and leftist and Obama worshiping, but either
they saw your post and quickly fixed it or they are not guilty on this charge.

I hate that pub - almost wish your charge was true!

Robert Jacobs

The main map still has Israel as the "Palestinian Territory". However, Newsweek has very quietly changed the pop-up image.
