Harry Reid's Race Baiting Finally Bit Him in the A**

Mr. Reid has been burning up the phone lines apologizing to every one in politics who ever met someone who is African American. All for saying in private in 2008 that Barack Obama should run for President because he was "light-skinned" and spoke with "no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one. Truth is that a comment like that is out of character for the Majority Leader, usually he is not a racist but he is a race-baiter. Even the "Negro dialect" line is an example of his race-baiting logic. What he was implying is that 45 years after the Civil Rights Act of 1964, are still so residual racist that they would only vote for a black candidate who doesn't "look or sound" African-American.

In this recording of a Radio interview from October of 2008 Reid was asked about then Candidate Obama's connection to people implicated in the FannyMae/FreedieMac Crisis. This past December Reid said opponents Obamacare were like the lawmakers who clung to the institution of slavery more than a century ago.

Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is this:, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right. When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, 'Slow down, it's too early, let's wait, things aren't bad enough.' When women spoke up for the right to speak up, they wanted to vote, some insisted they simply, slow down, there will be a better day to do that, today isn't quite right. When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats we hear today.

Senator Reid forgot that Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican Party president, or that it was the southern Democrats who were saying "slow down" to the Civil Rights legislation. That filibuster threat he was talking about was made by Sen. Strom Thurmond, then a Democrat, who unsuccessfully tried to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1957. The Civil rights act of 1964 was filibustered by Democrats.

The bill came before the full Senate for debate on March 30, 1964 and the "Southern Bloc" of southern Senators led by Richard Russell (D-GA) launched a filibuster to prevent its passage. Said Russell: "We will resist to the bitter end any measure or any movement which would have a tendency to bring about social equality and intermingling and amalgamation of the races in our (Southern) states."

Harry Reid has a history of trying to make people look like racists. His "light-skinned Negro" comment was just another Harry Reid attempt to brandish everyone but Harry Reid a racist.  This time it bit him in the Ass.
