Pelosi's Big Lie: There Has NEVER Been a More Open Process

C-SPAN wrote a letter to congressional leaders asking that TV cameras be allowed to film negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of healthcare reform legislation. Today Nancy Pelosi said that she has passed the letter on but "There has never been a more open process for any legislation," (See Video Below)

Pelosi hinted that holding informal negotiations--likely without TV cameras--might be the most practical way to push the legislation through. And then she accidentally explained the reason for all of the bribes and earmarks:

"We will do what is necessary to pass the bill,"

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), assistant to the Speaker, said the healthcare bill had been "subjected to unprecedented level of public scrutiny."

Yep posted on the net at the last minute with hidden earmarks and a provision that says the bill can't be changed.  Then there are the provisions that aren't in the healthcare bill, they were hidden in porkulus, like the "Death Panels" for example.

Pressed on whether C-SPAN cameras would be allowed in negotiations, Van Hollen hedged.

"We don't even know if there's going to be a conference committee," he said, alluding to the likelihood that Democrats will reconcile the two bills behind closed doors.

What was that Pelosi said about an open process? Reconciling the bill behind closed doors is not an open process.

Heck Even ABC, the network that gave President Obama a prime time special to sell his healthcare plan is noticing the lack of openness, This is from an ABC News report:

The C-SPAN television network is calling on congressional leaders to open health care talks to cameras — something President Barack Obama promised as a candidate.

Instead the most critical negotiations on Obama’s health plan have taken place behind closed doors, as Republicans repeatedly point out…

Obama pledged during a presidential debate in January 2008 that he would be “bringing all parties together, and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are.”
