America To Obama: The Economy is Officially YOUR Fault

For the first time since he was inaugurated, (and by a razor thing margin) more American voters see Obama's economic policies as the cause of the bad economy than blame Bush. 48% of American voters blame Barack Obama for the lousy economy and 47% blame former President Bush. Even more significant in this latest Rasmussen survey, by an eight point margin (52 to 44%) the key voter block, independents believe that Barack Obama is at fault.

Senator John "Why the Long Face" Kerry says it is not fair to blame President Obama.

"I think what's happened is Fareed, in the last six months I think there was an article even in the paper this week about people no longer blaming Bush. They're beginning to target this White House. That's a natural course of events as you go through any administration, but I don't think it is fair to the President,"

Senator Kerry, for most of the past year you had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and about 60% of the house also, your party could have passed anything it wanted, can't blame the GOP, maybe that's the reason you have the long face.

In June and last October, 45% blamed Obama’s policies for the country’s ongoing economic woes, the previous high finding on this question. The number who blame Bush is down from 62% in May 2009 when Rasmussen Reports first began tracking the question regularly. Only 27% faulted Obama at that time.

Today most Americans trust their own judgment on the economy more than they trust Obama. Sixty-two percent trust their own judgment more than Obama’s while 27% while trust the president’s judgment more. While a huge majority of Republicans (84%) and independents (67%) trust their own judgment more than the president's, a significant amount of Democrats (38%) believe in their own judgment more than they believe in Obama's (48%).

Thirty-seven percent (37%) of voters currently rate the president’s handling of economic issues as good or excellent. Forty-seven percent (47%) view his handling of these issues as poor. These findings, too, have held relatively steady since last November.


Forty-four percent (44%) of voters still expect their taxes to increase under Obama. Sixty-four percent (64%) believe government spending will go up under the Obama administration.


The economy remains the most important issue to voters among 10 top issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports.


Looking back, voters remain unhappy with the government bailouts of the financial industry and troubled automakers General Motors and Chrysler.


Just 25% believe the $787-billion economic stimulus package created jobs.

Americans’ confidence that the economy will be better in one-year’s time has fallen to its lowest level in well over a year.

With election only three months away, it seems that his strategy of blaming the previous administration for the economic woes we face today, just plain isn't working. Maybe its due to the fact that it isn't true.

Should Obama continue his refusal to recognize the truth, his party will be in bigger midterm election trouble than it is now.
