Pelosi Tries to "Walk Back" Her Call to Investigate the Mosque Protesters

Last night Nancy Pelosi went off the deep end, she weighed in on the mosque controversy by telling San Francisco’s KCBS-AM radio that
“there is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some.”
“I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded,” she said. “How is this being ginned up?”
Who are these "nefarious" people who are protesting the Mosque, I mean besides democrats like Harry Reid?

My friend Ed Morrissey put it brilliantly on Hot Air:
“What better way to defend the First Amendment freedom of religion than to have the Speaker of the House ask the federal government investigate those exercising their First Amendment right to free speech?”

Let me get this straight, because she got two questions about the Mosque issue at a press conference, we have to investigate the finances behind people who oppose the mosque, very American Madame Speaker.  Pelosi's comments are stranger than those of President Obama who had two different positions on the issue in less than 24 hours.

It doesn't matter what your position is on the Mosque, this threat of an investigation was an obvious attempt to intimidate people from exercising their free speech. Judging by this comment and many of her political positions, the last time Pelosi looked at the constitution must have been a very long time ago.

Maybe Ms Pelosi is just losing it because she sees that someone else will be the speaker during the next Congress, so she is lashing out at just about everybody.

Seeing the criticism of last night's statement, Pelosi walked back her comments a bit. Her office released the following:
"The freedom of religion is a Constitutional right. Where a place of worship is located is a local decision.

"I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that  'We agree with the ADL that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center. At the same time, we should also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.'

"For all of those expressing concern about the 9/11 families, we call upon them to join us in support of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act when Congress returns in September."
Translated into English that statement means:
OK people are pissed off about the first statement, which I admit was stupid, but I can't walk it back completely so I will add an investigation of the mosque funders so I can now appear to be even handed.
Nancy should shut up and start packing up her office, she will be moving into new one next January.

What funding??

A BUILDING needs to be funded. People calling radio stations, posting blogs and writing letters don't GET funding, or need it.

&*$%ing moron, is Pelosi.

What funding? This is where Pelosi really goes off the rails: what exactly does she think Ground Zero Mosque/NotaMosque opponents are spending money on?

Facebook postings? Twitter? Bloggers? Is she really deluded enough to believe people have to be paid to be against this?

Heh!

Do you see what Nancy just did there?

She agreed with a statement from the ADL who...wait for it...opposes the construction of the mosque.

Do these people really think that we're this dense?

"Do these people really think that we're this dense?"

Well, yes. In actuality, they do. They also think any largish opposition to them simply must be 'organized' at the top and paid for, since that is how they operate.

Are the stupid or braindead? Possibly, but mostly they're just totally out of touch with anything resembling normal citizens.

It's a San Francisco thing, you know. (Sorry about that, Rest-Of-the-Country.)
Senator Feinstein has a similarly cramped attitude toward the 1st Amendment.
(And this being California, there's no need to even discuss their attitudes about the 2nd...)

WV: "deakinge" : God-King - how appropriate.

This is just another example of someone marinating in the Washington/Democrat bubble. Since they have to fund anything any group on their side does, they take for granted that any movement must be funded. And since their motivations are always nefarious, they assume everybody else's is too.

And what's with all being concerned about the 9/11 families' sensibilities about this mosque on a site damaged by the murderous attack on the WTC and the USA?

Pelosi's answer is to tell people to support a bill in Congress?

Madam Speaker -- the issue at the moment is calling attention to the the inapprpriatenss and hypocrisy of a "cross-culture / bridge building group" kicking the 9/11 families and America in general to the curb while they ram our First Amendment down our throats.

You clearly don't have a problem with that.

So pack the drapes and decide to send more time with your family.

Please.

She can lecture me on integrity and tolerance, when she stands by in celebration of freedom of religion ...

I was all set to write a blog post asking where my money was for thinking that this Mosque/cultural center should be someplace else. Then I see that Krauthammer said it on the Teevee. Stupid Krauthammer, swiping all my good ideas by telepathy. Sometimes he even uses a time machine and swipes them before I think of them.

anyhow, where's my money?
