Everyone remembers where they were when they found out about the attacks on 9/11. I was sitting in my office when I received an IM from my brother telling me of the first crash and urging me to turn on the TV (I worked for Nickelodeon at the time and had a TV in my office). Turning on the set I saw what I thought was an replay of the crash, but it wasn't a replay it was the second plane. My entire team crammed into my offices and stared in disbelief as we heard about the attack on the Pentagon, and then each of the twin towers crash to the ground. Just thinking about it brings back memories of fear and confusion.
As soon as it was announced the bridges and tunnels were re-opened crowds rushed out of the city, it was a surreal picture, like the horror movies from my youth. Almost like Godzilla attacking Tokyo, but this was the 59th Street bridge shocked people who were crowding the streets, struggling to get off that tiny island as soon as possible. Halfway between the bridge and what was soon to be known as ground zero, here was an impenetrable curtain of black over the East River. Even breathing was different, the air had a "smokey" taste and a texture like sand paper.
That was only nine years ago, yet too many in America, especially in the liberal elite and in the Federal Government, people have forgotten.
Just yesterday, Newsweek editor Editor Fareed Zakaria wrote; "Nine years after 9/11, can anyone doubt that Al Qaeda is simply not that deadly a threat? Since the gruesome day in 2001, Usama bin Laden's terror network has been unable to launch a single major attack on high value targets in the United States and Europe," totally ignoring the many attacks blunted by anti-Terror operations, or the attacks such as the Christmas Day underwear bomber, whose plot was stopped only through is own incompetence.
It is clear that America needs a wake up and smell the danger around us before the Radical Islamists execute another successful attack, reminding us in blood.
A new film America at Risk created by Newt and Callista Gingrich, hopes to do just that. It's designed to vividly demonstrate the dangers facing America, one decade after the attacks on 9/11.
The Global War on Terror has been renamed the "Overseas Contingency Operation" by the Obama Administration. They have removed "Islamic extremism" and "jihad" from national security strategy documents. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has suggested we replace the word "terrorism" with "man-caused disasters." Our Counter-Terrorism Czar John Brennan insists that the term Jihad has nothing to do with violence.
The Obama Administration and their progressive allies refuese to tell the truth about the war we are fighting. According to experts in this film, we are at war with radical Islamists - and it is a war we are losing. We are long overdue for a serious global strategy in fighting terrorism and the ideology behind it. We must have the courage to tell the truth and to act on that truth. It's time to be honest about what we know. This film is desingned to do just that.
America At Risk features an All-Star team of terrorism, national security, and Middle East experts, including Bernard Lewis, former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, Debra Burlingame, Walid Phares, Andrew McCarthy, former UN Ambassador John Bolton, former CIA Director R. James Woolsey, Tony Blankley, Steven Emerson, Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, Michael Ledeen, Frank Gaffney, Reihan Salam, and others.
Why am I telling you all this? The trailer for the film is being released today(see below) , as well as a new website for the movie. The movie is being screened at the BlogCon Convention this week in Washington DC (which I cannot attend because of Rosh Hashana). As soon as I can I will view the movie and let you know if it as good as it sounds and report back on these pages, but since the "big splash" happens today, here's an advanced view of the trailer and if you want to learn more a preview of the the website.
