Olbermann Going To Al Gore's Current TV

It looks as if Mr. Nasty Keith Olbermann has found a new home.  Possibly one of the few TV networks with a smaller audience than MSNBC. According to The New York Times, Olbermann will be going to struggling Current TV the network majority owned by Former Vice President Al Gore and businessman Joel Hyatt.

According to the report Olbermann will get a prime time show Prime-Time TV and an equity stake in the company. Just like Gore and Olbermann, Current TV is leans to the progressive side of the aisle.

Current TV needs the kind of boost it will get from hiring the Dean of Mean. In 2009, it laid off 80 employees, about 20% of its staff at the time. It also doesn’t have the distribution that MSNBC has on cable. The pairing of Olbermann and Current TV could give the channel the boost it needs to regain some relevancy in the marketplace.
On Monday a public relations agency hired by Mr. Olbermann scheduled a Tuesday morning conference call for an announcement about his next job. “He and his new partners will make an exciting announcement regarding the next chapter in his remarkable career,” the agency wrote in an e-mail.

Current TV has set up a presentation with advertisers for Wednesday afternoon in Manhattan to announce its future plans. The channel may be betting on Mr. Olbermann to put it on the cable map. The low-rated five-year-old channel needs the help. Targeting young people, it originally subsisted on YouTube-style submissions and video journalists. More recently it started producing and acquiring traditional television series, like repeats of “This American Life.”
Olbermann will supposedly make his announcement at a news conference tomorrow.
