Saudis Say Letting Women Drive Will Lead to Lack of Virgins and More Gays

This comes from the "You just can't make this stuff up" department.

Besides being the world's largest supplier of Oil, the "moderate" Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is also the only country on earth that does not allow women to drive. Just to put that ban in perspective, even in the repressive country of Iran women are allowed to drive (wait, that's not the strange part).

Six months ago, Shaima Jastaniya drove her car in one of Jeddah’s streets before getting arrested by the police. Shaima insisted she wasn't trying to disobey the law, but needed to get to the hospital and there was no other public or private transportation she could have used.

In September, Jastaniya was sentenced to 10 lashes for challenging the driving ban which sparked outrage across the world. Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a billionaire entrepreneur who owns part of News Corp, Time Inc and the guy whose $10,000,000  Rudy Guliani refused to take after 9/11 because the Prince justified the attacks, saying they were a result of American/Israeli relations.

The prince and his wife, made a personal appeal to the king to spare Shaima because the incident was hurting the kingdom's image even more than cutting off the hands of burglars, public flogging for rape victims, banning of Christians bringing personal religious articles into the country, or the banning of Jews from bringing themselves into the country.

The king agreed to pardon the woman but the court in Jeddah has informed her that the sentence will stand. And they have scientific reasoning, according to the UK Newspaper, the Telegraph:
In a "scientific" report written with Professor Kamal Subhi, formerly of King Fahd University, scholars of the Majlis al-Ifta' al-A'ala, Saudi Arabia's highest religious council, say allowing Saudi women to drive would lead to a scarcity of virgins.
Wait a second, isn't that a good thing? After all, if there are no more virgins, there will be no incentive for people to blow themselves up right? I wonder if they are including heavenly virgins?

The scholars warned the  Council that repealing the ban on women driving would "provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce." The report warned the legislative body that repealing the ban on women driving in Saudi Arabia would result in "no more virgins." The report predicted that virgins would be extinct in Saudi Arabia in ten years if women were allowed to drive.
The authors of the report even offer anecdotal evidence to support their claim, the "moral decline" in other Muslim countries in which women are allowed to drive. Professor Kamal Subhi, offered up a case study of an unnamed Muslim country. He said while visiting the country and sitting in a coffee shop, "All the women were looking at me. One made a gesture that made it clear she was available...this is what happens when women are allowed to drive."

I guess he never considered that the women were pointing and gesturing at him because he was horrifically ugly, but not being able to find a picture of the guy on the web I cannot prove that thesis.

This is where the Professor is totally wrong.  Women driving brings people closer to God. As any parent who has taught their daughter (or son) to drive.  I guarantee that even the most religiously observant person prays much more often while in the car with a new driver. They also offer additional prayers when that child begins to drive on their own and goes out at night.  Now, limiting driving to only men cuts the amount of prayers in half, and limits the praying to only male parents.

On a more serious note, this is a great example of how even the most "moderate" of sharia-compliant countries are oppressive regimes, and a warning that when Obama helped force out the largely secular leader of Hosni Mubarak for what looks to be the leadership of an oppressive, Islamist, Muslim Brotherhood, he was sentencing Egypt to the same kind of religious tyranny shown in Saudi Arabia.
