My old boss Loretta used to say it over and over until it was riveted into my brain. "Jeff" she would say, "It's easy dealing with stupid people, and it's easy dealing with nasty people, but I can't deal with people who are both stupid AND nasty. That is a deadly combination!" I can't help thinking when she said that, she was thinking about Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lee. Each has Loretta's deadly combination plus, as and added benefit, have used public dollars to enrich themselves indirectly through their spouses.
Last week the Washington Post reported that Rep Jackson Lee steered millions of tax dollars to the university where her husband worked. The report says Jackson Lee helped send more than $5 million to the University of Houston while her husband was vice president of student affairs.
Last week the Washington Post reported that Rep Jackson Lee steered millions of tax dollars to the university where her husband worked. The report says Jackson Lee helped send more than $5 million to the University of Houston while her husband was vice president of student affairs.
The Washington Post story said the lawmaker had helped obtain four congressional earmarks for the school totaling about $5.3 million since 2009. The report cited $2.4 million for a “National Wind Energy Center,” $476,000 for a “Center for Clean Fuels and Power Generation,” $400,000 for teacher training and professional development and $2 million for the wind center.
The report said Jackson Lee sought another $16.5 million for the university in 2011 — money that was blocked by the earmark moratorium adopted by the GOP-led Congress.
I don't want to leave the reader with the impression that Ms Jackson Lee is simply a corrupt politician, she also has a reputation the meanest boss in congress, and someone who torments the disabled.
Being using Tax Dollars to help her husband's university, or being nasty aren't even Ms Jackson Lee's strong suit. The Representative from Houston Texas unintentionally provides comic relief to congressional hearings.
Jackson Lee who once wasted the time of Congress with a piece of legislation to honor the late "Michael Jackson (A Tribute to an American Legend and Musical Icon) that made the late "King of Pop" seem like Mother Teresa. Then there was the time she stood on the floor of the house discussing how North and South Vietnam are living peacefully side by side, even though there hasn't been a North and South Vietnam since Gerald Ford was President.
Last month Jackson Lee accused Newt Gingrich of using racial buzzwords when he accused President Obama of being the "food stamp president." It was hard to figure out what she meant until I realized that food stamps are used to purchase cereal and Count Chockula is a cereal brand, Lee must think Count Chockula is racist.
While Jackson Lee is nasty because she is ignorant, Maxine Waters spews stupidity because of her inherent nastiness. Water's latest attack of nasty occurred during the California Democratic Party Convention. There she attacked her colleagues on the other side of the aisle, not on policy, but because they are demons.
"I saw pictures of Boehner and Cantor on our screens (at the convention). Don't ever let me see again, in life, those Republicans in our hall, on our screens, talking about anything. These are demons," she told the crowd. "They are bringing down this country, destroying this country, because they’d rather do whatever they can do destroy this president rather than for the good of this country.”If Waters was nice she would hire an exorcist to come and drive the demons out of the GOP leadership. Maybe she could use some of that Tarp money she directed toward her husband's bank to pay for the exorcist. Oh wait...Waters says those charges are racist (perhaps the ethics committee eats Count Chockula for breakfast).
Waters' attack on her colleagues is the typical venom flowing from the California Congresswoman's mouth. Some of her verbal nastiness includes, Obama's political opponents are trying to kill him, the tea party can go straight to hell, and my personal favorite the tea party supports slavery just to name a few.
Call it peter principal, call it political corruption or being out of touch, these two representatives are perfect examples of politicians who should be thrown out of office. If stupid and nasty is bad, stupid, nasty and corrupt should be considered beyond the tipping point.
