Granted it's the PPP poll but there has to be some sort of connection, this blog endorses Rick Santorum on Thursday and Senator Santorum takes a 15% lead nationally on Saturday (for those of you who have never read this site before I am not serious), nevertheless it is big news.
According to the poll released this morning, Santorum leads Romney by a 38 to 23% margin, 21% back is Newt Gingrich and Dr. Ron Paul and his team of Paul-locks are bringing up the rear at 13%. Two months ago, PPP a Democratic party pollster had Gingrich up by two at 35% to 22% for
Mitt Romney, 11% for Ron Paul, 7% for Michele Bachmann, 6% for Rick Perry, 4% for
Rick Santorum, 3% for Jon Huntsman, and 1% for Gary Johnson.
The actual percentages and even order of placements by PPP are usually suspect, so it's the trend from poll to poll that's more significant than the actual numbers. One of the reasons for the two month swing is favorability. Romney's favorable/unfavorable plummeted from 55%/31% to 44%/43%, Newt's results were even worse from 60%/28% to 42%/43%. Santorum's favorability cannot be compared to the previous poll as those numbers weren't released, but this poll's numbers are an impressive 64%/22%.
Once again, keep in mind this is the PPP poll and most other recent polls still show Mitt Romney well ahead in the national GOP polls, they do support the trend that Romney, Gingrich and Paul are heading downward and Rick Santorum rising. Romney is the purple, Gingrich the green and Santorum brown.
