First Amendment? Producer of Anti-Muslim Video Arrested

The producer of the film which Obama claims caused the planned-in-advance spontaneous attack on our Mission in Benghazi Libya has been arrested by the federal government on a probation violation. Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, is scheduled for an initial appearance before Judge Christina Snyder, who sentenced him in June 2010 following a bank fraud conviction. His probation violation is related to the you tube video that made him famous.

I know there are some who ask why we don’t just ban such a video. The answer is enshrined in our laws: our Constitution protects the right to practice free speech. Here in the United States, countless publications provoke offense. Like me, the majority of Americans are Christian, and yet we do not ban blasphemy against our most sacred beliefs. Moreover, as President of our country, and Commander-in-Chief of our military, I accept that people are going to call me awful things every day, and I will always defend their right to do so. Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views – even views that we disagree with.

That didn't last very long. According to the Smoking Gun:

Investigators have not yet provided details about how Nakoula allegedly violated probation, but it seems clear that his involvement in the “Innocence of Muslim” production is central to the government's new charge.

Nakoula (seen above) was sentenced to 21 months in prison to be followed by six months in a halfway house. Upon completion of the custodial term, he was placed on probation for five years.

Included in his probation terms were prohibitions on his use of the Internet, unless he secured prior approval from his probation officer. Additionally, he was not to “use, for any purpose or in any manner, any name other than his/her true legal name or names without the prior written approval of the Probation Officer.”

Nakoula's  film, as wrong as it may have been is free speech, and this arrest has more to do with the President's desire to appease the Muslim world than a real violation of the guys parole.  This is just another example of the Obama administration's disregard for the the Constitution.
