Despite the media's best attempts to tell us differently the polls seem to be turning around again, this time in Romney's favor. While the numbers themselves are not important the trends just might be.
According to Rasmussen Romney continues to hold a seven-point lead in voter trust over President Obama when it comes to the economy--which is by far the number one voting issue. The new survey reports that 51% of Likely U.S. Voters trust Romney more when it comes to handling the economy. Forty-four percent (44%) trust Obama more. These are pretty much the same numbers as two weeks ago.
Where the President has seen a big lead over the months is national security. But based on his mishandling of the Libyan terrorist attack that "lead" is shrinking."
Late last month, Obama held a 47% to 42% advantage in voter trust when it comes to handling national security issues. Two weeks ago, it was Obama 46%, Romney 43% in this area. Now, Romney has moved slightly ahead, with voters expressing more faith in him by a narrow 46% to 44% margin.Other polls are showing a similar problem for Obama:
The foreign-policy results of the new Bloomberg National Poll haven't gotten much attention yet, but the survey contains some bad news for the Obama campaign. According to the poll, Mitt Romney has a 48-42 advantage over Barack Obama on the question of which candidate would be tougher on terrorism. Romney, in other words, has encroached on one of Obama's signature strengths. Those are just polls, and trends--worrisome for the president (and all Americans) are some national security revelations about the administration, its cover-up of the Libyan terrorist attack and even more frightening-- a new crisis brewing in Syria.
- Last night ABC's Jake Tapper laid out the Administration's mendacity regarding the Libyan terrorist attack.
- Yesterday, Jim Hoft the Gateway Pundit found the State Department retroactively erased an email posted on the net which said there should be no problems on the anniversary of 9/11 (when the Libyan attack in Benghazi occurred). The letter said
Terrorism and Important Dates
Global
9/6/2012
OSAC currently has no credible information to suggest that al-Qa’ida or any other terrorist group is plotting any kind of attack overseas to coincide with the upcoming anniversary of September 11. However, constituents often have concerns around important dates, holidays, and major events, Often times, these concerns are the result of increased media attention to the issue, rather than credible evidence of a terrorist plot.
But now that email is gone faster than a NY Jet lead in the third quarter of an AFC Championship game. I don't blame them, it showed that the Obama Administration's judgment was totally wrong.
- And the "natives are getting restless. According to the Washington Examiner:
What makes this move even more significant is the fact that Kerry hopes to be the Secretary of State should Obama win reelection. For him to show concern that the administration isn't being totally open with Congress when he is auditioning for a promotion means he is very concerned about the lack of transparency coming from the White House (perhaps that's why he has the long face). The Senate Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., circulated a bipartisan letter addressed to Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides, asking for an "accounting of the attacks against U.S. missions in Egypt, Libya and Yemen," according to a copy obtained by The Washington Examiner.
The lawmakers are also demanding to know whether the administration had any advance warnings of the Libyan attack and, if so, whether it had shared that information with U.S. personnel on the ground.
The letter marks the first time congressional Democrats have so directly expressed their dissatisfaction with the administration's response to inquiries about the attacks, which resulted in the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others and raised questions about U.S. security throughout the Middle East and Northern Africa.
A Kerry aide confirmed that the committee intended to enlist the support of Republicans and Democrats and said the letter would likely be sent Friday. Another aide told The Examiner that the panel's 10 Democrats and nine Republicans plan to sign it.
- Finally there is the worst piece of news of all, not because of the way it may or may not change voter's opinions, but because the Obama Administration error may have put us in real danger of a WMD attack.
WE JUST DON'T KNOW!?!?!?! So the Syrian rebels may be shipping the killer stuff over to Iran as we speak, or handing it to al Qaeda, Hezbollah and/or the Muslim Brotherhood and WE JUST DON'T KNOW!?!?!?The U.S. has lost track of some of Syria’s chemical weapons, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Friday, and does not know if any potentially lethal chemicals have fallen into the hands of Syrian rebels or Iranian forces inside the country.
“There has been intelligence that there have been some moves that have taken place. Where exactly that’s taken place, we don’t know.” Panetta said, in a Pentagon press briefing.
Panetta said that the “main sites” in Syria storing chemical weapons with which the Pentagon is most concerned remain secured by the Syrian military. But there is “some intelligence” that “limited” movements of weapons from other sites have occurred, he said, “for the Syrians to better secure what they – the chemicals.”
Panetta's statement follows reporting that Syrian rebels claim to have taken control of a military base that contains chemical weapons.
“But with regards to the movement of some of this and whether or not they’ve been able to locate some of it,” he said of U.S. intelligence, “we just don’t know.”
Folks of all the gaffes and dereliction of duty by this administration over the past 44 months, this may turn out to be the most serious. It will be the one that keeps me up at night for a while.
No wonder why Obama's national security numbers are fading, his administration is incompetent. Benghazi has proved this, "losing track" of Syrian WMDs has proved this also. In the end they not only screw up---but (as they are doing with Benghazi) then they lie to cover up the trail.
