Jabri was a senior operative of the terrorist group and was directly responsible for executing terror attacks against the Jewish State in the past number of years.
IDF Spokesman Brgi. Gen. Yoav (Poly) Moredechai said that tonight, "we struck a blow to the command and control of Hamas when we hit Ahmed al-Jabari, head of Hamas' Military Wing in the Gaza Strip, who headed the organization and personally directed and ordered terrorist attacks against Israel. We are opening a broad attack, given the intolerable situation of the residents of the South."
The killing of the terrorist Jabri, was the first action in what the IDF is calling Operation Pillar of Defense.
IDF Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yoav (Poly) Mordechai, said that IDF operations began following the "intolerable situation in the south of the country, and seeks to harm terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip." During the night, IDF Chief of Staff Gantz approved the detailed plan. All options are open in order to seriously damage Hamas and other terrorist organizations."
The IDF has targeted a significant number of long range rockets sites (over 40km) owned by Hamas. This deals a significant blow to the terror organizations' underground rocket launching capabilities and munitions ware houses that are owned by Hamas and other terror organizations. The aim of targeting these sites is to cripple the terrorist organizations' rocket launching and weapons build up capabilities. The Gaza strip, has turned it into a forward base for Iran, firing rockets and carrying out terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens. The IDF will continue to target terrorist sites that are used to carry out terror attacks against Israeli citizens.
Pillar of Defense is a reference to the pillar of fire God sent to protect the Israelites as they left Egypt and traveled in the wilderness.
The actions which may expand is what Israel and any other country being attacked by terrorism must do to protect her people.
It is not yet know what "great friend of Israel" Barack Obama's reaction to the Israeli defensive operation will be. The President has been silent throughout the Hamas attacks on Israeli civilians. Don't be surprised when Israel moves to protect here citizens no matter what the Obama administration says or does.
