The founder of Domino's Pizza is suing the federal government over mandatory contraception coverage in the health care law. While I do not agree with the Catholic Church's stance on contraceptives the first amendment to the Constitution guarantees each Catholic to practice their religion. Religion is not designed to provide rules for people during services, in churches, synagogues, or temples. The purpose of religion is to guide people how to live their lives in the secular world also. The Obamacare law and it's follow up guidelines issued by Kathleen Sebelius are asking people like Tom Monaghan to break with their faith.
Tom Monaghan, a devout Roman Catholic, says contraception isn't health care but a "gravely immoral" practice.
He filed a lawsuit Friday in federal court. It also lists as a plaintiff Domino's Farms, a Michigan office park complex that Monaghan owns.
Monaghan offers health insurance that excludes contraception and abortion for employees. The new federal law requires employers to offer insurance including contraception coverage or risk fines.
Monaghan says the law violates his rights, and is asking a judge to strike down the mandate. There are similar lawsuits pending nationwide.
A message left Saturday for Monaghan's attorney, Richard Thompson, was not immediately returned.
Sadly the liberal reaction to Monaghan's law suit will be political, but this is not a matter of politics, its a matter of faith.
