The House GOP caucus had a conference call this afternoon which almost all House Republicans dialed into. Members were told by Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) that the House of Representatives will be "gaveled" into order at 6:30pm and members should “plan on being in town through the following week to conduct the business at hand. The fiscal cliff (and the Debt Ceiling) hits when the ball drops on Times Square midnight, New Years eve.
Speaker Boehner’s told House Republicans that nothing has changed the nation is still “on the edge of the fiscal cliff” and the Senate hasn’t given the House a reason to return, but they will anyway. “We are waiting on the Senate,” Boehner said. First the Senate needs to pass a version of the house bills then “the House will then consider whether to accept the bills as amended, or to send them back to the Senate with additional amendments. The House will take this action on whatever the Senate can pass – but the Senate must act.”
Boehner also said that the true deadline for the debt limit is February or March not New Year's eve.
