Al Sharpton Hypocrisy: Criticism of Mayor Bloomberg's Gun Campaign Due to Antisemitism

Its incredible when non-Jews play the Antisemitism card as a way to attack their political opponents, its downright disgusting when its an Anti-Semite playing that card. This morning on the Morning Joe program, Mike Barnicle and Al Sharpton agreed that part of the opposition to Mike Bloomberg's Gun Control efforts are caused by Antisemitism.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

As a card-carrying member of the NRA, I find their false charges of Antisemitism despicable. As a Jew who opposes Mike Bloombergs attempts to control every aspect of our lives, I find their false charges of Antisemitism disgusting.

But as a Jew who has researched Al Sharpton's history of Jew hating, I find the fact that no one on the show confronted Sharpton for even uttering the world Antisemitsm makes me sick to my stomach.

Al Sharpton led two anti-Semitic pogroms in New York City

Twenty-one years ago a tragic car accident in Crown Heights Brooklyn escalated into a pogrom against the Jewish people, thanks in part to this faux-preacher.  The media gives this pogrom a politically correct description, violence between the area's Blacks and Jews. They ignore the fact that the violence was not two-sided. The Crown Heights riot was an attack on the Jews by the neighborhood's Caribbean community. Al Sharpton fanned the flames of violence.  (For more on Crown Heights click here).

In 1995 The United House of Prayer, a large African-American church was also a major landlord in Harlem. They raised the rent Freddy's Fashion Mart, a Jewish-owned clothing store which had operated from the same Harlem location for over 40 years. In turn Freddy's had to raise the rent on its sub-tenant, a black-owned record store. A landlord-tenant dispute ensued. As he has done so often in his life, Al Sharpton turned this non-racial economic dispute into a racial conflict, by fanning the flame of Antisemitism.  Sharpton's incitement led to the firebombing of Freddie's and the death of 7 innocents (for more on the Freddie's Pogrom click here).
The battle over additional gun control laws has nothing to do with race, or religion it has to do do with the rights guaranteed to all Americans by the constitution.

When people falsely use terms like Antisemitism, ESPECIALLY when they are anti-Semitic haters like Al Sharpton, it waters down the effect of what should be a horrible label.

Al Sharpton has no right to determine what is anti-Semitic, but as a Jew who has faced Antisemitism many times during his life..I do.  People who are fighting for the Second Amendment, like me for example, are not doing so because of Jew hatred.
Al Sharpton, the  MSNBC broadcaster/professional agitator who used the term this morning is an Anti-Semite of the worst kind.

Excellent post. I wish Al Sharpton would crawl back under the rock he was born under. BTW, Happy Passover!

A Gentile :)

The English language has a word to describe Al Sharpton, Chutzpah.

I am not familiar with the history of Jews and Blacks in NYC. I am also not prepared to label Al Sharpton antisemitic without more information.

Nevertheless I do wish many white jewish people( many jews in the states are non-white) will confront the racism against Blacks that is present. I have always and will continue to condemn the antisemitism in the Black community as well.

As an activist whenever I write about or discuss the relationships between both communities I get slandered often from many with the yiddish n-word.

Whenever I would discuss and write about Isreal and South Africa during the aparthied era ( SA was a haven for Nazi's after WWII)the anger also flows with ugly slurs etc.

I am looking forward to the day when candid conversations between White Jews and Blacks can exist without the angst, discord and mistrust ...

This has nothing to do with the History of Jews and Blacks in NYC,,,its about One Man Al Sharpton and the Jews. In the article I have links to the entire Crown Heights and Freddy's fashion mart.

The N word is not Yiddish and Israel has nothing to do with Apartheid.

One of the things I am most proud of about the Jewish Community is that Jewish Leaders were on the front lines of the Civil Rights movement.

I have a picture in my home offices of Rabbi Heschel walking next to Rev Martin Luther King Jr. on the march to Selma...next to them were other Jews..one was even holding a Torah

Jeff,

Awesome!! Of course during the aparthied era in South Africa Israel sold arms to the SA government many Jews in SSA protested as much..

The present day and current usage of the yiddish n-word is Schwartze..It must be removed from all discourse regarding Blacks!!

Greg..All I can tell you is that word is used primarily by the older generation..as are most divisive words like that.

I have never heard it from anyone younger 65 or so.

My children have never heard that word, nor would I stand for them using it.

Sadly words meant to degrade races and ethnicity are still part of the culture..not only toward the Black Community but I should send you some of my hate mail.

According to many otherwise normal people, I own the banks, the government, hollywood, the media and of course I am more loyal to Israel than the US (all memes taken from the protocols of the elders of zion). There are even some in government who believe and repeat this nonsense (as I like to say, I don't even control my own household).

Believe it or not there are some in this country who even say that passover matzo is made from the blood of christian babies. Which for those who know Jewish theology is more abhorrent than it sounds.
