Today he has held true to form and said he would not negotiate with Congress over the debt ceiling--and he made the claim in his usual hypocritical way.
In a blistering warning to congressional Republicans, President Barack Obama said it would be the "height of irresponsibility" for lawmakers to cause another economic crisis just five years after the collapse of the nation's financial system.Wait a second did he just bash the GOP because they will not negotiate "promises economic chaos if it can't get 100 percent of what it wants," and then say he refuses to negotiate? Isn't that just a little hypocritical. Well I guess it's no more hypocritical than the fact that he will negotiate with Vladimir Putin, the Syrian government , Iran and has even offered to talk to the Taliban..but he won't talk to the Congressional GOP.
"I cannot remember a time when one faction of one party promises economic chaos if it can't get 100 percent of what it wants," Obama said Monday. "That's never happened before."
The president spoke at a White House event pegged to the fifth anniversary of the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers. The White House used the anniversary to lay out the president's markers for upcoming fiscal fights with Congress over funding the government and raising the nation's debt limit.
Obama reiterated his refusal to negotiate with Republicans over the debt ceiling. And he called on Congress to "pass a budget without drama."
Understand the Debt ceiling will not lead to a default unless this president wants it to, there is plenty of money to pay the interest on our debt, and essential services/entitlements if the money is directed that way. Sadly just as he did with the sequester, this president will probably use the lack of agreement on the debt ceiling to punish the American people.
In the end this President forgets that constitutionally, the House was give the power of the purse because it is the body of the government closest to the American people. The American people are telling Congress to stop this spending madness!
