PolitiFact is is a
project of the Tampa Bay Times whose mission is to find
the truth in what is said by and said about our political leaders. Today they
took on the President's promise "If you're one of the more than 250
million Americans who already have health insurance, you will keep your health
insurance."
Despite the evidence that this particular promise made by President Obama was false, PolitiFact rated the President's promise as half-true:
Obama has a reasonable point: His health care law does take pains to allow Americans to keep their health plan if they want to remain on it. But Obama suggests that keeping the insurance you like is guaranteed. In reality, Americans are not simply able to keep their insurance through thick and thin. Even before the law has taken effect, the rate of forced plan-switching among policyholders every year is substantial, and the CBO figures suggest that the law could increase that rate, at least modestly, even if Americans on balance benefit from the law’s provisions. We rate Obama’s claim Half True.
During the past month there have been reports of millions of
people losing their health insurance becasue of Obamacare
including, 800,000 people in New Jersey, 300,000 policy holders of Blue Cross/Blue Sheild of Florida, Kaiser
Permanente in California dropped 160,000
people, Blue Shield of California dropped about 119,000 and that is only
three states. Based on the facts, it is difficult to understand where
PolitiFact finds any truth in the President's claim.
My Rating: Their Half-True is Half-Assed and deserves a "Pants on Fire."
UPDATE:White House spokesman Jay Carney explained at today's briefing that "it's true" some Americans will not be able to keep their health care plan under Obamacare. So the President might give Politifact a "pants on fire also."
