In another sign that the end might be near Skidmore College, a liberal arts school in upstate New York, will be offering an entire class this summer dedicated to Miley Cyrus!
Skidmore, which was named by CBS as one of the 25 most expensive private colleges, is offering the course as part of its summer curriculum. It is not yet known whether People Magazine or Rolling Stone will be used as the course text books.
The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender, and Media is being taught by Professor Carolyn Chernoff according to a flyer that recently surfaced online, the course will look at Miley and her identity within pop culture and mass media.
From Disney tween to twerking machine, Miley Cyrus has grown up in the public eye, trying on and discarding very different identities on screen and off.The class description says that the course uses Miley Cyrus as a lens through which students can explore themes about race, gender, and identity in the media.
The class will also cover a variety of topics including:
- The rise of the Disney Princess
- Gender stratification and the hyper-commodification of childhood
- Transitions to adulthood
- What happens to Disney stars as they age (see Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and more)
- Allies and appropriation
- Uses of culture across race, class, and gender
- Bisexuality, queerness, and the female body

When one reads stories about how Americans students have fallen behind those of other countries in the subjects such as math and science, one only has to look at courses such as this to understand why.
And don't forget a student at Rutgers can take a class about Beyoncé and Georgetown offered a class about Jay Z.
So do you think this is a viable college class or proof that the end of the world is near?
