According to the official newspaper of the Palestinian Authority run by "moderate" President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel invented the kidnapping and murder of Eyal Yifrach, 19, Gilad Shaar, 16, and Naftali Frenkel, 16 as a pretext to start the Gaza war.
In his August 16th column, Yahya Rabah, regular opinion writer for Al-Hayat Al-Jadida and member of the Fatah Leadership Committee in Gaza, wrote:
We are now at the beginning of the third month of the broad Israeli aggression against our people, its unity, its reconciliation and its national project. The occupation (i.e., Israel) planned this aggression, which began on June 12, after the failure of peace negotiations [with the PA]...Unlike newspapers in the free world, the official newspaper of the Palestinian Authority only carries opinions approved by the government.
The aggression began on June 12 following a fabricated event for which no one took responsibility, that is, the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens.
The IDF arrested Hamas official Hussam Kawasma for the kidnapping of the three boys. Under interrogation, Kawasma admitted the kidnappers received training and funding from Hamas handlers in Gaza and that he funded the operation, armed the killers, and helped bury the bodies on land he’d recently purchased.
