Leon Panetta-- ISIS Flourished Because US Left Iraq Too Soon-Involved In Syria Too Late

As part of a a 60 Minutes report about ISIS this Sunday, Scott Pelley will be interviewing former Obama Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta...Obama will not be pleased.

In a preview clip released by CBS Panetta say that ISIS grew because Obama allowed the US to leave Iraq too early and didn't allow the US to get involved with helping the Syrian rebels--against the wishes of his national security force.

Pelley: Back when you watched the stars and stripes being lowered for the last time in Baghdad, were you confident in that moment that pulling out was the right thing to do?

Panetta: No, I wasn't. I really thought that it was important for us to maintain a presence in Iraq.

(...)

Panetta: The real key was how can we develop a leadership group among the opposition that would be able to take control. And my view was to have leverage to do that, we would have to provide the weapons and the training in order for them to really be willing to work with us in that effort.

Pelley: But with virtually his entire national security team unanimous on this, that's not the decision the president made.

Panetta: I think the president's concern, and I understand it, was that he had a fear that if we started providing weapons, we wouldn't know where those weapons would wind up... My view was, "You have to begin somewhere

Kerry is an incredibly dim bulb.
National embarrassment is an understatement.

Just another example of the liberal tenet of 'what's your is mine too'.

At least LBJ did not hold and then release Ho Chi Minh...

"ISIS Terror Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Was Released By Obama from Camp Bucca in 2009"
"The FBI “most wanted” mugshot shows a tough, swarthy figure, his hair in a jailbird crew-cut. The $10 million price on his head, meanwhile, suggests that whoever released him from US custody four years ago may now be regretting it…"

Washington Post
“The current ISIS leader was captured by American forces in 2005 and spent the next four years a prisoner in the Bucca Camp in southern Iraq. The Obama administration released the ISIS leader... "

Interview with Obama

Q: Will you use every tool in our country’s arsenal to prevent civil war in Iraq after troops are pulled out?

Obama:
"If we are doing this right, if we have a phased redeployment where we’re as careful getting out as we were careless getting in, then there’ not reason why we shouldn’t be able to prevent the wholesale slaughter some people have suggested might occur..."

OBAMA says OBAMA screwed up in Iraq
To wit:
"If we are doing this right, if we have a phased redeployment where we’re as careful getting out as we were careless getting in..."

Well, it was awful nice for Panetta to lay out Hillary's argument for us.

Yeah, they might end up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels and be used in the deaths of many, including an American border patrol agent.

And of course ISIS seized weapons we had stored in Iraq and made themselves stronger because of our weaponry. So, even if he was worried about that outcome he achieved it all the same.

Obama. He knows more about military strategy than his military advisors.

Scott Pelley is such a giant asshole.

The bottom line is war is incredibly messy and all sorts of people who shouldn't get injured and die horribly do, and bad guys who are the cause of all the bad shit end up usually not dying quickly enough.

This mess will only get worse and worse and worse and no one will have clean hands, no matter what bs rhetoric are made by any feckless, weak politician.

You cannot pick up a turd by the clean end. Your hands are going to get shit on them.

all these liberals (media and politicians), ultra quiet at the time, but creeping out now, are asses.

"virtually entire national security team"?? Only Valerie Jarrett and Susan Rice mattered to Obama. Valerie wants normalized relations with Iran at all costs, even if it means declaring a Caliphate in the US with a major White House speech.

But we were told that Obama was the Smartest Man to ever hold the President's Office!!! You mean we've been Lied too ??????????

The Left has taken to describe ANY post-war presence in Iraq as “in perpetuity”, hoping the less witting (i.e. Obamavoters) would interpret that as for several hundred years. This is ONLY for political reasons. The fact that we’ve done this in Kosovo for over a decade is ignored. I do not count Germany, Japan , and Korea because those continuing presences was to deter war with a third party, not because we worried about backsliding into Fascism.

So for purely political reasons Obama ceded ALL of our victories to ISIS. Better that than admit that Bush’s attempt at installing a relatively liberal democracy in the Middle East was starting to work.

Had she integrity, she would have pulled a "Cyrus Vance".

"You mean we've been Lied too ??????????"

Yes, and far more than just once. It is harder to find a truthful statement than it is to find a lie.

Obama has done exactly what's been necessary in Iraq. Assuming his goal has been to see the rise of radical Islam and the establishment of Caliphate. Do the math.

"If I was forced to make a final prediction today the GOP has a 60%
chance of taking the Senate. They would pick up six seats and lose one
for a net of five."

Republicans need to net 6 to take the senate unless one of the Independents caucuses worth Republicans. That's not likely. Kansas is a shame. It is such a red state, Republicans could have easily won with anyone who actually lives there and is to the right of center politically. By pulling out all stops to keep Roberts, the GOPe leadership may have cost themselves the Seante majority they covet. There is a certain justice in that outcome.
