Mitt Romney's Getting The Band Back Together---WHY?

After months of denying he had any interest to run for president again, but then on Friday according to the Washington Post, speaking to dozens of donors Romney minced no words, saying flat out: “I want to be president.”

Romney told about 30 donors in New York. He said that his wife, Ann — who last fall said she was emphatically against a run — had changed her mind and was now “very encouraging,” although their five sons remain split, according to multiple attendees.

It wasn't isn't just a desire, later reports on Monday indicated he was getting the old team back together again.

Mitt Romney is moving quickly to reassemble his national political network, calling former aides, donors and other supporters over the weekend and on Monday in a concerted push to signal his seriousness about possibly launching a 2016 presidential campaign.

Romney’s message, as he told one senior Republican, was that he “almost certainly will” make what would be his third bid for the White House.

The question is why? Why would Romney run again? Why would Republican voters want to recycle their 2012 candidate, who may have made a good president but directed a campaign which lost what many say was the most winnable race against an incumbent president in modern history.

Here's the politically interesting part, Romney (who radio host Hugh Hewitt will tell you was always running) is probably making the moves right now just to make sure all of the big "moderate Republican" money donors don't commit to Jeb Bush. The two are  seeking the GOP establishment cash before any others get into the race.

Romney and Bush both show up high in recent polls but that is more of function of name recognition than anything else. They even look best against Hillary Clinton again because they have the best name recognition.

The question for the "republican establishment" is why? Why would you throw your money behind either of these retreads now? Romney lost, Bush is doing everything he can to alienate the conservative wing of the party .  If you are looking for a "moderate" why not look at Scott Walker, Mike Pence, Bobby Jindal, or one of the other Governors putting feelers out? For God's sake, the Iowa caucuses are more than a year away (2/1/16).

As the 2016 race begins to coagulate, I still believe what I said the day after the 2012 election

No More "Same Old Same Old" As we begin to coagulate towards potential candidates for 2012 we look at what pundits have been calling our strong bench.  The whole lot of primary contenders should be thrown out and we should be looking to new candidates, our strong Governors our conservative Senators, etc.  Oh an please not Chris Christie is not a conservative, he is a fiscally conservative RINO, who cares more about his reelection than the future of this country.  There are plenty of political hacks on both sides of the aisle, we don't need to raise up one more. 

People like Romney and Bush are "Same Old, Same Old," if the party wants to take the White House in 2016 they need to offer the public "New and Improved."
