Witness this conversation between Maher, Rob Reiner, and the "Science Guy:"
Maher: Speaking of which, you know, what about this anti-Semitism that's going on in Europe?
Reiner: It's never gone away, that's the thing. You know, thousands and thousands of years we've had anti-Semitism. It's been lowered, it comes back, we had it, you know, obviously during the Second World War and then all of a sudden we have Germany emerging very liberal and all that. But this undercurrent of anti-Semitism has always been there. Just like racism, it's always there and then it just bubbles up to the surface every once in a while. And it's horrible now.
Maher: Yeah, I mean, Netanyahu is asking European Jews to come to Israel and ...Having no comprehension about Israel being the Jewish homeland again Nye butts in, and again he's wrong.
Nye: Come home to Israel -- that's what he said, right?
Maher: Well, I mean, he is the ...
Nye: But you never, the people have never been there. They live, grew up in whatever, in Germany or France.Don't worry Rob Reiner, Bill Nye the Jew-Hating guy has the solution, if the Jews only took the time to know their neighbors...
Maher: It's a shame that they should have to move, uh ...
Nye: Well, they probably won't either, 'cause it's not their home, you know.
Reiner: But you can understand it. There were German Jews that lived in Germany during the Second World War and that was their home. And, you know, at a certain point, you know, if your life is in danger, you want to go to someplace where you're going to be protected.
Nye: So, what do you do about it? I think you get to know your neighbors. And it's gonna take, what, does it take a century, something. If only the self described science man took the time to understand why Netanyahu invited the European Jews to come home perhaps he wouldn't seem so......ignorant.
It's a basic tenet of Judaism, that Israel is our home and that ultimately all Jews will return to the holy land. In fact, one of the themes of the Passover Seder is that as Jews we can never be truly free unless we are in Israel. Near the beginning of the Seder we say "today we are slaves, tomorrow may we be free." It is why we end the Seder with a prayer and a phrase:
Pure and Holy One, dwelling on high, Raise up Your people with love And lead us to Zion in joyful song.During the Holocaust hundreds of thousands of Jews, maybe even millions could have been saved but no country wanted to take us in...not the U.S. (FDR thought the country had enough Jews), not the U.K. who not only banned more Jews in England, but also banned us from the holy land.
Next Year In Jerusalem!
It is one of the roles of the Jewish State, as long as there is an Israel, Jews have a place to go. As long as there is an Israel, there will always be someone to protect the Jews.
If only the engineer turned climate expert looked at the history of Europe, that Jews have been living there for over two thousand years getting to know their neighbors, perhaps he wouldn't have blamed the Jews for the Antisemitism in Europe.
Was it anti-Semitism or stupidity? The statement about "knowing their neighbors" was an anti-Semitic one, but whether or not Nye hates Jews or is simply as ill-informed about European Jewry as he is about global warming cannot be known without looking into his heart.

Actually, he's Bill Nye the Sci-Fi guy.
And yet, Eric Holder & our sterling Obama administration would have us believe that FOX NEWS is the singular source of all misinformation. These guys have no clue . . . . about anything.
Bill Nye, the perfessor of climate science now morphed into sociology perfessor who knows very little in either field but believes an expert in something. Soon to be a perfessor of Middle East studies.
In Sarajevod during the period of communist-Run Yugoslavia, Jews, Christian and Moslems got on fine and shared a common culture. TheJews community was well liked and respected for its contribution to society in developing pharmacies, a speciality which came in useful during the siege of this city by the Bosnian Serbs, when the Jewiosih organisation La Benvolencia distributed medicines to those who needed them irrespetive of what ethnic group they belonged to. Jews have lived in India for millenia and had no problems with their Hindu or Sikh neighbors. This guy is a nasty shit-stering anti-Semite who ought to be the target of a massive educational campaign. He should also be reported to the Federal authorities for using the airwaves to spread hate speech. If he had said the same thing about Muslims, there would have been an outcry.
"You could also swap in Pee Wee Herman for Bill Nye and get a more fact-based response on virtually any scientific topic." Daniel Greenfield @ Sultan Knish.
Truer words have never been spoken.
I have said this elsewhere, but might as well here too.
We had a student wonder why the Jews didn't just "Get to know their neighbors" in the Wiemar Republic/Nazi Germany class I took in college. The next day, the professor brought in excerpts from journals by non-Jews at the time writing about when their neighbors were carted off. They tended to run along the lines of: "The SS came for the Bergsteins today. It was upsetting; I thought we were only going after the bad ones. They were nice, honest, hard-working people, unlike the rest of the Juden".
First let me say that I absolutely can not stand Bill Nye. He's a smug, self-righteous phony. However, I'm curious about who we should report him to. The show was on HBO, a pay cable channel, so it's not actually going out over the airwaves. The other question I have is why should we report him. Is there a law against unpopular speech? And if there were a law, would you want this administration deciding who gets to speak and who must remain silent? Nothing would make me happier than to see Nye's career crash and burn like his fellow serial liar Brian Williams, but I'd rather have my enemies free to lie than allow a hostile government decide who can speak freely and who can be imprisoned or fined for saying what's unpopular. The First Amendment was enacted to protect the speech of the minority voice, since the majority doesn't need to worry about being silenced.
Also, thanks for the history lesson about Sarajevod (which I never heard of). I don't know much about Jewish history other than what's written in the Old Testament and I think I've only met a handful of active Jews during my lifetime. Active meaning they actually participated in regular customs and worship. I'm an evangelical Christian, but I also support the right of anybody to worship whoever or whatever they want as long as they don't harm others in the process because I believe God gave each of us free choice. I believe Nye is actively harming others not just through his anti-Semitism, but through his global warming alarmism that has actually caused a lot of people to directly lose their jobs.
Sorry if my comment might seem kind of confused and unfocused. I recently had back surgery and my pain medication makes it hard to focus as clearly as I'd like to.
Who said Nye should be reported to anyone? Who is saying that Nye's 1st Amendment rights ought to be violated? It seems to me that you have a problem with his comments being brought to light at all. Why is that?
Barry Appleby. HIs name is actually right next to mine where it says I'm responding to his comment. Personally I'd like to see Bill Nye fired for being a bigoted piece of shit. Not enough to throw the Bill of Rights under the bus for convenience though.

Bill Nye is a failed comedian who eventually got a job hosting a kids' educational tv show, and suddenly he's an expert on everything. What a delusional moron he is!
Europe dumped its Jews onto Israel, and now wants them to disappear altogether.
Look at the bright side: for once, he didn't blame global warming!
Nye richly deserved a ration of grief for saying that Jews should just get to know their neighbors. That was typical leftie crap...if we were all nice, nobody would bother us, and there would be rainbows and ponies and strawberry ice cream for everyone. Just like the idiots who blame Islamic terrorist on the west.
The other thing, about suggesting that Israel isn't the Jewish homeland, it sounds like Nye was saying that many Jews born and raised elsewhere regard the country of their birth as home, and have no interest in moving to Israel. I suspect that's true for many people. And there have been many people of all types though history that have refused move in the face of hostility, for various reasons. I don't see how Nye deserves scorn for saying that.
It would be much easier to be neighborly if they had some sort of apparel based emblem that allowed for easy recognition and quick exchanges of pleasantries.
You say childish. I say mentally ill. The question is that who is more mentally ill? Obama or Netanyahu? I vote Netanyahu.
