Tzipi Livni Would Be A Disaster for Israel.

Driven by her good friend Condoleezza Rice, Tzipi Livni has been a leading figure in moves towards a two-state solution that would leave the Palestinians in full control of the West Bank as well as the Gaza Strip. But she wasn't always a proponent the of the Two State sellout. She grew up in a family schooled in the ideology of the great Zionist leader Ze'ev Jabotinsky, but she has forgotten one of his most important rules:

It is incredible what political simpletons Jews are. They shut their eyes to one of the most elementary rules of life, that you must not "meet halfway" those who do not want to meet you.

Now she believes in one sided concessions in a desperate race to end the "occupation" of Palestinian territory because of bad math (ensure that Israel will remain democratic with a Jewish majority, and to preempt attempts) and bad Public Relations (the ongoing "occupation" is used to deligitimize the state).

Ted Belman of Israpundit argues that her first reason is totally bogus and the second is fixable. The real issue is that we should be looking for a different solution, because the two state solution JUST ISN'T PRACTICAL.

Where is it written that the US can’t be convinced to back a different solution? I believe in time it will be. Sooner or later the US will accept that the two-state solution is an impossible dream or vision, if you will, and will start to entertain alternatives.

Jordan has quietly made it known to the US that a Palestinian state would be a danger to it. Jordan much prefers that Israel remain in in Judea and Samaria. There are many in the US who prefer the Jordanian option and we have to keep pursuing it. Jordan is also having discussions with Israel.

But after Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza was followed by an increase of rocket fire on Israeli civilians, Livni remarked that next time “we can’t just throw the keys over the fence” - not even for the sake of international legitimacy. In other words, there will have to be agreement with the Palestinians and possibly international guarantees before Israel makes any further withdrawals.

Here is the problem, to negotiate a deal with the PA right now is doing just that, throwing the Keys over the fence. Sacrificing the future of Israel just to make nicey- nicey with the international community.
