Watching true-life crime stories on Discovery I.D. happens to be a particular vice of mine. Becoming an arm-chair expert in crime solving I have learned that often when a crime goes unsolved for years, the criminal begins to brag about his accomplishments and that's how the villain is exposed to the police.
The latest news regarding the "bugging" of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's campaign office is according to a long-time Democratic party operative the meeting was taped by leaders of the Progress Kentucky super PAC.
Jacob Conway, who is on the executive committee of the Jefferson County Democratic Party, says that day, Shawn Reilly and Curtis Morrison, who founded and volunteered for Progress Kentucky, respectively, bragged to him about how they recorded the meeting.Morrison and Reilly did not attend the open house, but according to WFPL-FM in Kentucky, they told Conway they arrived later and taped the meeting from hallway.
“They were in the hallway after the, I guess after the celebration and hoopla ended, apparently these people broke for lunch and had a strategy meeting, which is, in every campaign I've been affiliated with, makes perfect sense,” says Conway. “One of them held the elevator, the other one did the recording and they left. That was what they told to me from them directly.”
Other sources have corroborated this series of events to WFPL. The meeting room door is next to the elevators on that floor. McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton has told multiple media outlets the door was shut and locked on Feb. 2. But the door has a vent at the bottom and a large gap underneath.
“Apparently the gentlemen overheard the conversation and decided to record it with a phone or recording device they had in their pocket. Could've been an iPhone, could've been a Flip camera or something like that,” Conway say.McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton told the radio station the door in question has a large gap at the bottom and a vent the duo could’ve recorded the meeting through.
Conway told Fox News' Megyn Kelly that he didn't want the actions by Reilly and Morrison to inflict damage on Democrats in Kentucky.
"The only reason that I came forward with what I knew was I was trying to protect the Democratic Party," Conway said. "I believe in our party's values, and I was doing what I thought was best for the party because I did not want their bad behavior, their poor mistakes — I shouldn't say "bad behavior" — their mistakes, their lack of judgment to hurt our party's efforts here in the state Kentucky and in Jefferson County, here in Louisville. It's interesting that the Kentucky Democratic Party knew about this. The questions that arise from this is did they tell the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee? If not why not? If they did tell them, why was the DSCC piling on after Mother Jones released the report? Where they that convinced that no one would get caught?
As for Messrs Reilly and Morrison they may be in a heap of trouble (Mother Jones also):

Divulging information obtained through illegal eavesdropping is a separate crime, punishable as a misdemeanor. Ky. Rev. Stat. Ann. §526.060.In other words if this story turns out to be true...not only is Progress Kentucky liable but if Mother Jones and Mr. Corn knew the wiretap did not have the consent of one party and they ran with it anyway they are not only liars for their false transcript but criminals as well.
UPDATE: Liberty Chick has more on the story at Breitbart
UPDATE 2: Sean Reilly's attorney Ted Shouse says description above is not accurate... blames the other guy:
”Our client is at most a witness to potential criminal activity,” attorney Ted Shouse Reilly's attorney said. .. We’re clearly not going to say Mr. Reilly was not there. He was there. Reilly, he said, spoke with the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Kentucky the day the Mother Jones story broke. “We have cooperated with the FBI since the tape was released to the public on Mother Jones, we have provided information and support that we believe is assisting them in their investigation.” Reilly, he said, did not hold the elevator or in any way participate in any recording. “It was a Morrison show,” Shouse added.
Shouse refused to say what actions his client took in the hallway. But he said, "We completely disavow Mr. Conway's version of events.”But Shouse wouldn't say if Reilly had any contact with people at Mother Jones. He also wouldn't comment on whether Reilly has been told if he's a target of the federal investigation.
