Unlike many others, I do not begrudge President Obama for taking a vacation. Everybody needs one! Heck, I just got off a week-long cruise to Alaska, how can I criticize someone else for taking some time off?
That said, any vacation the president takes, should reflect the hard times the nation faces, especially the national debt which approaches $17 Trillion dollars. I am not suggesting Mr. Obama and his family spend a week in once-beautiful downtown Detroit or the parts of the east cost still ravaged by hurricane sandy. Nor am I suggesting that he do what his predecessor George W Bush did and spend his vacations at his homestead (besides a Texas ranch is much safer than a week in Chicago which despite its tough gun laws has amongst the highest gun crime in the country).
I don't care where the President chooses to take his family--but does the presidential dog really need his own plane? I am sure you love your dog Mr. Obama...but it’s JUST a dog!

Arriving in the idyllic coastal retreat of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, Mr Obama left behind him in Washington DC high profile debates over the budget, government surveillance and his health care reforms. Instead, he will spend the next eight days playing golf, going to the beach, and buying books from the Bunch of Grapes bookstore. In the air he swapped his suit and tie for khakis and a blue shirt with rolled-up sleeves, while Mrs Obama wore a yellow-and-white summer dress.Bo, the president's Portuguese Water Dog, arrived separately on one of two MV-22 Ospreys, a hybrid aircraft which takes off like a helicopter but flies like a plane. It was the first time the Ospreys have been taken on holiday by a US president.
Last time I checked, despite our exploding debt, this president was still looking to spend additional federal funds! He is still whining about the sequester which cut spending- -and wants to find new ways to punish the successful so why the heck does he fly his dog out on its own plane? Is he trying to make up for the fact that he ate dog as a kid?
In the grand scheme of things the few hundred thousand dollars spent on Bo's solo flight to Maratha's Vineyard pales in comparison to our or debt or our annual deficits, but it reflects a "let them eat cake" attitude when so many in this country are living day to day.
I love my dog Soos, but she stays home during family vacations.
Are we supposed to believe there was no Presidential kennel to put the dog in? Is there no one left at the White House to act as a dog sitter? I understand not trusting the VP but what about John Kerry? It would take him away from screwing up the Middle East for a while. Or how about Chris Christie, everyone knows he would do just about anything to help you out. If the President insisted on taking the dog on vacation...why couldn't he fit on Obama's plane?
This is just one more example of the arrogance this administration showcases every day. Sometimes its circumventing the constitution, others its giving Obamacare benefits to federal employees that the "regular" people don't get, and even others is giving the Presidential dog its own plane.
