Note: There is VERY Strong Language in This Post:
On Wednesday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office decided to interfere with private enterprise by cancelling the six trademarks on the name "Washington Redskins." My friend Caleb Howe put up a post detailing registered trademarks in good standing much worse than "Redskins." Caleb's post is great and a must read, but to be honest there are trademarks even worse than the ones he put up.
Scroll down and see why I say the Trademark office Ruling is a Crazy Bitch (and worse)
On the other hand if the Redskins do want to change their name among those acceptable to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office would be the Bitchs, The Shits, The Fucks, The Blue Balls, The Tits, The M.I.L.F.s, The Retards, The Coons, The Half-Breeds, The Nips, The Beaners, The Hillbilllys, The Guidos, and Jesse Jackson's favorite...The Hymies.
When they get rid of all the above...maybe then they could get rid of "The Redskins"

The fascism of today's Democrat party is terrifying.
Sometimes, you gotta know when to hold them and know when to fold them...I think there are arguments on both sides here.
I rank the Redskins as my second favorite NFL team (behind the Steelers), and I lived in the Washington area in the '80's and '90's and enjoyed the Redskins teams of that time. Maybe the nickname has worn out its welcome. It's not the first time a team nickname has been changed. In fact, in the Washington area the NBA franchise changed its nickname from Bullets to Wizards, and I doubt anyone is clamoring to keep the Bullets nickname. The fans will adjust to an appropriate nickname and life will go on. Whether it's "political correctness" or something else, if keeping the nickname is more trouble than it's worth, I say change the nickname.
Incidentally, the usual "proposed" nicknames for the team, such as "Washington Negroes," "Washington White Guys," and the ones mentioned in your post are irrelevant to the discussion, as they are simply rhetorical devices to show the alleged "racism" or ridiculousness of the debate. Maybe there is a problem with the nickname Redskins. If so, there are alternatives available that do not insult the intelligence of anyone following the debate. Nicknames do change (and one need only notice the Indian-themed nicknames on the college level that have been changed--often after a certain amount of debate among the fans of the teams). It will not matter much whether or not the Redskins nickname is changed--life will go on for the fans and everyone else. There are much bigger issues to debate at this time.
Apparently, you don't get it, sheldan. The main objections are not to losing a beloved name. The main objections are to the inherent hypocrisy in the government's coercive overreach in political correctness enforcement. If enough people are actually all that upset, market forces will supply the necessary impetus for a name change. We don't need the government to tell us when we can wipe our ass and when we can't.
