Amount of CO2 in The Air Has Hit A New Record And Scientists Are Worried (That They Will Be Found Out)

Think Progress has published a new scare story about global warming "The Amount Of Carbon Dioxide In Our Air Just Reached A New Record, And Scientists Are Worried." Based on their claims as compared to the truth, the only thing these scientists should be worried about their disregard of the truth being discovered.

According to the Tuesday post on the George Soros funded Think Progress:

On Monday, scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Mauna Loa observatory in Hawaii told Climate Central that June would be be the third month in a row where, for the entire month, average levels of carbon dioxide were above 400 parts per million (ppm). In other words, that’s the longest time in recorded history that this much carbon dioxide has been in the atmosphere. The finding is troubling to climate scientists, several of whom told ThinkProgress on Monday that the levels are a reminder that humans are still pumping too much carbon dioxide into the sky. If the trend continues, some said, carbon levels will soon surpass 450 ppm — a level that many scientists agree would create a level of global warming that would be too difficult for some humans to adapt to. “CO2 levels continue to increase, the amount of heat in the climate system continues to increase, ice continues to melt, and the seas continue to rise,” said Ken Caldeira, an atmospheric scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science’s Department of Global Ecology.

The doom and gloom projected by ThinkProgress are not occurring despite the fact that CO2 levels have been increasing.

For example, global temperatures are not increasing.Through the end of May 2014 the Earth has not warmed for 17 years and nine months (June will be available the second week of July). And here in the United States temperatures have actually declined for the past 80 years.

ThinkProgress claims the sea ice continues to melt  That is simply not true. In the final weekend of June 2014,  Antarctic sea ice levels surpassed the old record and are now at the highest level since measurement began in 1979 . Overall ice totals (including the Arctic) is almost one million sq. kilometers above average. So despite what ThinkProgress is claiming, It doesn't look as though the ice caps are going to melt and flood the coasts any time soon:

The new record anomaly for Southern Hemisphere sea ice, the ice encircling the southernmost continent, is 2.074 million square kilometers and was posted for the first time by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s The Cryosphere Today early Sunday morning. It was not immediately apparent whether the record had occurred on Friday or Saturday. Requests for comment to Bill Chapman, who runs The Cryosphere Today, were not immediately returned. The previous record anomaly for Southern Hemisphere sea ice area was 1.840 million square kilometers and occurred on December 20, 2007. Global sea ice area, as of Sunday morning, stood at 0.991 million square kilometers above average. (The figure was arrived at by adding the Northern Hemisphere anomaly and the Southern Hemisphere anomaly. A graph provided by The Cryosphere Today showed the global anomaly as 1.005 million square kilometers.)

Oh and there is one more thing wrong with the ThinkProgress fear mongering, they are almost 13 thousand years late. Approximately 12,750 years ago before big cars and coal plants CO2 levels were higher than today. And during some past ice ages levels were up to 20x today's levels.

And, a peer-reviewed study this year found that the present day carbon dioxide level of 400 ppm was exceeded — without any human influence — 12,750 years ago when CO2 may have reached up to 425 ppm. 'Scientists note that geologically speaking, the Earth is currently in a 'CO2 famine' and that the geologic record reveals that ice ages have occurred when CO2 was at 2000 ppm to as high as 8000 ppm. In addition, peer-reviewed studies have documented that there have been temperatures similar to the present day on Earth when carbon dioxide was up to twenty times higher than today’s levels.

With global ice above normal, global temperatures not increasing, and the fact that CO2 levels used to be much higher even during ice ages, what are these scientists so worried about?  Perhaps they are worried about being found out. After all they are the ones ignoring sciences.
